I've had this kind-of epiphany building for the last day or so, starting when I started going through my old photos and such. I used to take a bazillion pictures of my dolls several times a week, it seems. Right now they are sitting in a clothes basket, most of them half dressed and all of them certainly hairless. I put them in there to keep them safe from Smudge's teeth in like, October or something. (Saki's leg has been dangling out of it the entire time, and isn't looking worse for it. Just the first two little teeth marks she put in him all those years ago.)

I'm kind of at a loss... I'm not involved in the community anymore (not that I ever really was, mind you. Much too hard to keep up with), I haven't been able to buy stuff for them, let alone any new ones, in uhhmmm... I think it would be about 3 years now, I'm much too lazy to make them anything, and so I have something like $2k worth of resin just sitting here collecting dust. I don't feel the same attachment to them. I rarely take them with me anywhere (this may be more because they get heavy, fast. How do you peoples with more than 3 manage it??) anymore, I'm apathetic at best towards local meets (they are always at bad times for me, but I never speak up to say so, since I know I likely won't go anyway) and maybe it just seems like the fan attitude degenerated like every fan attitude always does? Like, back when I got my first one (oh Mia, almost 5 years...) the local scene was pretty small and we were all YAY DORRIES!! and now... man, you shoulda seen the beauties people had at Animethon. Just a few years ago, we had a dozen dolls, one of which was a head, and this year there were like, 40.

I guess I just feel bad that they're sitting around doing nothing except hold my coat up when I chuck it down on them (bring it on, fanbrats) and I wonder what I am ever going to do with them. I'm asking myself, can I bear to part with them? I likely won't, since this funk seems to come down every year when I have barely looked at them for two months (nano and extra money, you kinda suck for that). Maybe I will pull them out after tomorrow's cleaning spree...

ETA: One of Saki's toes has a resin deformity on it. In the over-4 years I've had him, I never noticed it. I bet I can work it into his character XD

Saki: Yeah, I stubbed it really bad when I was a kid, it's never grown right since...

ETA2: (snickers) Ren has a mullet-tastic wig on. If I make him some black hakama and kimono with white underthingy, and a little armband, he can cosplay as Kaien-dono XD

Aha, fandoms. BJD fans are stark raving mad for the most part, but there are a few out there who are chill. Not many of the old ones still do photostories, though (*keeps going with the photostories like a dog with a bone*), but still. <3

We used to bring Nicole's 13 in one suitcase. All to themselves. And they pretty much went to the event, came out, went back in, and back to the car ^^;

I don't think I would either, honestly. I guess I'm just in that "but I don't do anything WITH them..." mindset. Like how I recently gave away some books that have been on my shelf for the last 10+ years, and while I know I read one of them, I'm not convinced I ever read the sequels, and I couldn't remember what they were about either. And I knew I was never gonna read them again so why keep them? My brain, she is strange this week.

I never had the patience for photostories, so kudos for that ^^

Even if I parted with Ren and Ralli, I'd likely keep Saki. He's still my baby <333

I keep thinking the same about mine... and then looking at them and being like... aww ;___; Even poor unpainted, unphotographed Ambrose. (because yay, lesbians!) I just feel bad for being so fucking _lazy_ about it.

Maybe the 12" I have coming in the mail will reawaken some kind of incentive to play dorries... because I sure as hell will be prettifying him as soon as he arrives. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Three words. Rolling scrapbook tote. It's vastly easier to haul the resin around if the resin has wheels on it and isn't dragging my shoulder down, let me tell you. Though I may be dragging my entire crew out east for Otakon this year (huge photoshoot, between me, the GF, her roommate, and their best friend, we have enough SDs to do the entire Chinese zodiac and that'll be the one and only shot at getting a group picture) and I'm not sure how the fuck I'm going to manage four SDs on a plane. ~~I'm sick of this motherfucking resin on this motherfucking plane~~

Even wheeled things seem unmanagable after a time, but maybe that's my flabby arms talking :O That sounds like an amaaaaaaaazing photo opportunity. Is it sadistic to hope that it happens?

One of these days I want to go to Otakon, but I fear the humidity will kill me by way of melting and I'll have to be shipped home in a jar D:

The totes aren't bad; it's a weight-distribution issue. They're weighted so low that they don't really drag on the arms the way a larger suitcase can. I can't bring the tote to Otakon with me though...and I need to figure out how to pack my laptop...because I don't have a netbook...ohgodfourSDs... And yes, you're sadistic but if Katen's outfit is any sample, it will be FUCKING AMAZING. He's the Rooster and he's wearing his getup right now, and it's jawdropping. I'll bring him in it to Sakuracon and you can marvel with me.

I like Otakon a lot. The humidity can be brutal but I've dealt with it in a) a full shinigami captain outfit, NO CHEATING so there were many many layers; b) an arrancar getup; c) long kimono; and this year, the crowning glory in the WTF was I thinking category, d) Angelina Durless. Hmmmm I guess I never considered how a specialty item like that would actually work ^^; A shame you can't take it with you, it sounds like a god-send. Eeeee I can't wait to see! :D

OMG THE BUSTLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *drool* (Why no, I wasn't making grabby-hands at the screen while watching Sherlock Holmes, what are you talking about?) Half of my brain is just making incoherent sounds. The other half is equal parts "oh, well that doesn;t seem so bad, I did that in August when it was close to 30C" and wanting to grovel at your/your seamstress' feet *cough* NO idea what its from, but holy toast, its goooooooooooorgeous. Do want.

It's one of those things you don't think about until you hear about someone else trying it. I'm bringing it with me to Sakuracon; my main worry about getting it on the plane is fitting it in an overhead bin. It is not a smushable object, and I don't want to run the risk of having to check dollies because I can't get the case into the bin. That would be bad. And oh man you'll love this outfit, it's awesome.

XDDDDDDD Worship my seamstress, not me. I can't sew for shit. She's from Kuroshitsuji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Butler) (which I HIGHLY recommend). I've always wanted to make a shot at an actual female costume and when my group said they wanted to do Kuro this year, I jumped at the chance. Finding some of the props is proving to be a bitch -- the shoes for one, it's brutal hard finding durable Victorian-style shoes that aren't going to kill me since I am NOT wearing heels that damn high -- but it'll be worth it in the end, I think.

Eeeep, that would be bad indeed D: I guess the only good part is that there's lots of time to find out/find a suitable replacement? Although dorries + laptop, that could be interesting...
