Long weekend musings
Sep. 6th, 2015 10:55 pmI went to visit my sister this weekend. She lives almost 4 hours away now, and I hadn't seen her since the day that Grampa died, so it was really good to get up there and visit. I had originally intended to stay until Monday morning, but changed my plans by the time I left for her place. After a busy first-week-back with meetings, dancing, and general running around picking things up to take up to her, I realized how much I've been go-go-go of late (the weeks leading up to my vacation, and then even the vacation itself, and then I hit the ground running as soon as I got back) and damnit, I'm tired. So we had a really good day making cabbage rolls and visiting (and some sadness as we reduced some of Grampa's belongings into mine, hers, and throw-away piles. It's hard to reduce someone's life to inanimate objects of little value to anyone but him, and only sentimental value to us, yet both of us suffer from two generations of hoarding behaviour and we have too many things as it is, and neither of us could find use for a box of pill bottles filled with random screws), and then I left this afternoon to make the long drive back. I need to get some groceries tomorrow and pick up my cat.
Tonight I finally got to make a mock-up of my 1909 corset cover. I drafted it out of Edwardian Modiste at the beginning of August and simply have lacked time to mock it up. It needs a tiny amount of tweaking, mostly just bringing in some of the bust line and perhaps adjusting the armscye a tiny bit. I should tape some bones in place first to see how that looks too, but it should be OK even if I don't do that.
Feel a little bit in limbo right now. I haven't got any major sewing projects on the go just yet, even though I want to, I don't know where in my list to start. Turns out I already finished the boning channels on the stays, and I think I hadn't gotten any farther because I need to make a busk decision? And maybe put in the channels on either side of the back before I start binding it? Then I just need to make a binding decision. I made it in gold brocade and navy twill, so what the heck do I bind it in?? I have some tape that I made already but I think I don't want white with stars, or orange satin, so...
I suppose I could start my new stays pattern. I left my knitting in the car, and it's been raining so I haven't wanted to get suited up to go get it. Not to mention, I forgot all of my needles at work, so I've been doing the lace pattern in the wrong size needle, and can't even start the pineapple yet. Grrrr!
I also realized that my hobbies-for-profit thing was lacking some hobbies! Where do I fit in writing and reading? So many things to do, so little time.
