My heart was a damn liar and the hockey season is over. At least Florida didn't win it in our house. It was a better game too, the Oilers were really trying, but Florida was just that much better and their goalie is disgustingly good. I would be so thrilled if he played for us but he does not and so I am annoyed by how good he is lol.

I was grossly hot when I got home so it was an immediate strip down and into the shower. Then I wanted to wear my new dress, so I did. The skirt is large enough to pull things off of other surfaces when I brush by hehe. While the game was on, I moved some of the fabric bins around, and somehow forgot that I had inventoried the blue ones? I really ought to label them or else my fabric "catalogue" is useless now that I've forgotten which one was which.

But it allowed me to find the length of green cotton that is stained, so it was the perfect fabric for the Ginger pants. I dropped the end of it off the table edge and only remembered a few minutes later that the cat fountain was there, and sure enough, the end of it was now SOAKED haha. But I could still cut out the front and all the waist area bits, which I did. I had enough for cropped pants, which is perfect. Tonight I will cut out the back legs and then get to work. Debating if I want to make it into a jumpsuit, since the legs could not be cut side by side I have a length of uncut stuff down the center. But I already cut the waistband so... no. But I could use that extra for another mockup, probably. It is not a very pretty shade of green.

Also need to do laundry, I have been putting it off for a really long time.

This morning, picture this: I have flipped the blankets down into place. Calcifer leaps onto the bed and into the corner made by pillows, and starts digging at them like she knows something is underneath. Sophie jumps up and onto her with such force that she goes right over and for a moment, they are just a ball of fur and legs and tails. Two kittens is definitely the way to go <3

WOO!

I am wrecked after the game last night. M and I went to the arena for a watch party and it was SO FUN, especially bc WE WON!!! But we walked around the entire outer ring of the ice, twice, and its all just concrete on concrete on concrete. My knees and my feetsies are very sore lol. BUT I got my nachos!!! They are basic chips and salsa and sour cream, but then they put on a queso and pickled jalapenos, and you can opt for meatses for extra. I've not tried the other two types (chicken and somethin') bc the beef birria has my ENTIRE heart. I made M try it and she said "I see why you wanted them so much." Thank you for indulging my deep desire for hockey arena nachos hehe.

M mentioned that the funeral WILL be livestreamed, so I will put that on while I do mail and try oh so hard not to cry.

Bra findings arrived early evening and if not for the game, I would have that dress nearly done. It's two sizes, three findings, in two colours. The TINIEST bag, put in a large bubble envelope. I immediately thought silver would be the best choice so built one strap while I watched the kittens chase a bug in the hall. But then I thought maybe the black would look OK because the rickrack brings the dark colour up closer to my face. And it does! So that's my next sewing adventure sorted :D

M wasn't sure about going to the event tonight. The entire reason we wanted to go was a guest whose meet n greet is happening 1-3pm. The show floor closes at 7 and there's no way we'd get there until 530 at the VERY earliest. Our tickets (promo tix dropped off at her store, so free) are for tonight only. I think it's safe to work on the assumption that we are not going, and I am OK with that.

The game was painful. After Florida's fifth goal, the Oilers pulled the goalie. The radio guys opined "this is not a reflection on him at all, this is a mercy." Penalties galore, lots of pushing and shoving, a fight that the radio guys commentated just as enthusiastically as any other part of the game ("what a terrific fight!") and then finally, mercifully, it was over.

I imagined the coaches giving the team a talking-to in the intermission, and remembered that while I was eating lunch one of the TVs was showing "coaches gone wild". Coaches trash talking players and other teams in interviews, a scroll bar of particularly egregious events (of note, a coach who tried to storm the other team's dressing room), and a whole lot of angry white men screaming in players' and referees' faces. Yikes.

ANYWAY. I put a row of rickrack on the two tiers of the skirt and then doubted design choices for more. Do I put it on the hem? On the bodice edge even though the top has a gathered area that will not necessarily lie nicely? Pinned some lines in place and then pinned it all on the dressform and I think I'm gonna go for it. Would that I had enough for multiple lines, that was very popular on many of the images I looked up.

(Post is nothing but excited screaming as Cup finals game 1 was won at 19:29 of overtime by our boy LEON DRAISAITL!!!!!!)

I was reading during the game last night, happily pretzeled on the couch with Calcifer on my legs or feet. And since we had a full overtime period* it was rather late by then and I was already in bed lol.

*regular season hockey is a short break and 5 mins of overtime before going to a shootout. Playoffs overtime is the full 15 minute intermission and full 20 minute period, for as long as it takes. Memorably in 2006, when Edmonton finally won a game in one of the earlier rounds at 1-something in the morning, in OT period 3.

I must finish and expect to finish my book today. Back to regularly waffling about sewing anon.

(incoherent screaming as the Oilers win the elimination game and we're going back to the Cup to KICK FLORIDA'S MOTHER TUCKING ASS THIS YEAR and ALSO THE FIRST GAME IS BEING PLAYED HERE!!!!!)

Jolly good game, well played, pip pip tally ho.

It was an extremely toasty 33C when I left yesterday, so first order of business was take off my work clothes (long sleeves and long pants). Second order of business was to cut out the bodice and stitch it together - done! That got me through one 45 minute episode of my true crime documentary and then it was time for the game! Even though I put it on at 6, puck drop is 20 mins later and I knew that, but whatever. It was a very important game (potential elimination game - if the Oilers won, Dallas was out) so I was all-in. Made myself dinner which was homemade salad dressing over lettuce, onion, avocado and alfalfa sprouts. The kitchen was VERY WARM already and I was not about to make it hotter by cooking.

After dinner I adjusted the skirt pattern by grading the waist to hip and then held it up against me to judge the length. I decided to leave it actually! At most I'll hem it a little higher if needed. Cut it out (worried about people in general as the emergency alerts came on first about wildfire evacuations and then about an incoming storm front with wind gusts of up to 130km/h - 81 mph) and headed to the machine to work on it while the game continued.

Pockets: Sewn. I placed them and then decided that they needed something to break them up amongst the print. Perhaps the rickrack I'd chose across the top? What if I tried to place it just underneath so that the top point stuck out along the edges? That was SO cute so I went with that. But the rickrack I'd chosen was small and it was difficult to place. The lavender, with the shortest yardage, was a little too large. I had two packets of pale pink in a medium size and that was perfect. I pinned the first pocket with the rickrack but for the second I just guided it as I sewed. Then I stitched up seams and pinned it to the bodice.

No photos online yet, but it is so cute! I do need to adjust the bodice yet, it's quite a bit too large. The 6-shoulder/front width to 10-bust is not QUITE there and I think I ought to put a sleeve on before poo-pooing it entirely. I think I need to shorten my front bust darts an inch or so. The side darts are... well if they're meant to be AT my bust level they are too low, and if the point is meant to stop within 1" of the apex they are far too short. I don't mind the side dart as much, it at least points in the right direction, but the front ones are causing pointiness and that's an issue.

But the game was over by then, which meant it was after 9pm, and no good decisions are ever made after 9pm.

Today I am wearing my Scout dress for the first time!! This one is an 8 F/G bust with the armscye scooped quite a bit inwards (I don't quite remember how much even though I made it only 2 months ago; I remember sticking the pattern line on one size and cutting it back to the smallest one I'd printed, possibly having intially cut the 8, then placing it on 12 and cutting back to 8 again). The armscye IS a little tight in the front of my arm but not distractingly so.

Weekend plans... Sunday is potentially a get-together with some awesome friends, weather permitting. Saturday M floated the idea of visiting the farmers' market downtown so that's a possibility too. Otherwise, eh. I'll dye my hair and whatever else takes my fancy.

Today though, to the mall for my prescription and a container of coffee cream! After that, we shall see.

Happy to report that my hockey team is on to western conference finals! I had a thought that if Winnipeg wins their series then [personal profile] mala_14 and I will be rivals for approx 10-14 days but then a Canadian team would be in the Stanley Cup for SURE and that would be awesome. Of the six teams still playing, we have played 3 of them, two in finals before. We shall see how the next days play out.

Also happy to report that I have gotten my dishes down to ONE countertop, and the other one I pulled everything off and wiped down last night. What's left is a few big things, but I am so close to finishing them for really reals. Only to make new dishes, but it's fantastic seeing the evidence of deep depression melting away.
