May. 1st, 2016 07:09 amUp way too damn early (been up since abouuuuut 5;35, for no apparent reason) and still awake, so time for a post :)
I'd been spending a lot of my free time sewing with Nicole, getting my costume done for Expo this weekend. Several pieces involved; I started with the jacket since it needed decorating. It was done mid-month and Nicole did most of the gem-gluing while j started on the other pieces. It was done-done except for closures when we drove down, and then I spent a very paingry* 3 hours one night, and a further 1 hour after sleeping, hand-sewing - a string of LED lights to the edges, the day I wanted to wear it.
*(like hangry, but coming from a place of overwhelming pain/exhaustiono/etc. I saw the term first in relation to chronic illnesses, but it works for the utter tiredness I feel after nights of insomnia, too)
I had to spend like, 45 minutes doing makeup, since I never got around to doing a makeup test, but it worked out well. Once I put the mullet wig on, it was so great. I always forget how putting on makeup (especially really theatrical stuff) changes your appearance so much but from "inside" your face, it doesn't feel any different.
Con was good. Sometimes we could barely move three feet. I'd pick up my bag, and put it right back down as more people came up wanting to take a picture. Had to be so careful, though, as I lost quite a few gems just in the normal course of waking through a con. Touching other people was out of the question. (But I did it anyway)
Since she loves to compete, we entered the costume contest and came up with a simple skit to perform. Then we won both best in class - craftsmanship (which surprised me, the handsewing I put on the lights was nowhere near my best work and j thought it looked awful) and best in show. I heard there was some drama over the awards, but there always is.
We celebrated with fast food and going to bed early. It was great, except for the wide awake at 6 am part lol
