Shortly after my last post I went ahead and made a Facebook group for the people who wanted it. So far it's pretty much all of my friends lol. I also thought we could squeeze in a quick event as long as the weather holds, so I made a "promenade" for next weekend. Dress code is "something from your closet". I chose a day and time frame where I could have a nice walk by myself if no one else shows up. If I'm alone and anyone asks, I'm doing some witchy photos for Hallowe'en.

I, of course, apparently need to be extra, so I have choices. Everything I could wear has bits that are not ready. First plan: the 1840 dress I wore at CoCo 17. I would need some kind of neck covering, and gloves. I have an early 1870s bonnet that could do double-duty (not especially accurately, but all it needs is a bit of trimming). I have a knit shawl and a generic fleece-lined wool cloak that could probably keep me warm enough. Con: it closes up the CB, and I have never tried to put it on myself.

Second plan: Riding habit. I could probably throw a hat together next week.

Other plans: finish the bonnet from the Workwoman's Guide that I started years ago. Its frame is made up and I started mulling it. Bonus: could try out some of the hat techniques I observed in a workshop at that same CoCo. Make a pelerine. Cut some cloth or just hem a bit to make a shawl (I might have some appropriately sized pieces, would have to consult my spreadsheet)

Late(r) Victorian - and make a dolman. One group I joined had a link to the LACMA patterns page, and it has a dolman coat. The coat is unlined and generally unshaped, so it wouldn't be too hard to toss that together. I don't really have a good later outfit though, although the dolman would largely cover it. Alternative, do a non-bustle dolman, as i have a very basic NF dress that would be appropriate, and a bosom friend to wear. That is currently missing its trim, but I could put it back on easily enough.

I'm leaning towards Victorian-something. While I would love an excuse to wear the riding habit again, I haven't done any Victorian in over a year, and it's one of the most complete outfits I have.

In other news, before the ball last week I was working on a commission. While I was either serging or pinning, I can't remember which now, I was struck by the thought of how much I was enjoying working on it. So I think I really am close to being ready to get back into sewing, which is partially helping drive the group. I want to make the things and then wear the things and spend time with people who enjoy the same! It's kind of a silly time of year to do it... Winter is coming, I spend November writing a novel and December working my tuckus off, and then January/February/March fighting off SAD and/or wallowing in it.

But, it's gonna happen. I got intimidated by my silk sack gown, so maybe I won't work on that project. Also, I am finally feeling better - Ribs are mostly healed up, judicious application of the nasal spray has helped my sinuses and breathing clear. I should take a bunch of photos this weekend and finish trying to sell off my costume pieces!
