Friday afternoon post:

Wasn't sure if they'd even come to my apartment, but I noticed that the shower curtain had been moved, so they did! Had a snack and plunked down on the couch with Bridgerton. I think it was better as a full season, but there were still a lot of questionable choices in the pacing and storyline.

Today I woke up around 430 and didn't get back to sleep thanks to my upstairs neighbour's fan rumbling like a lawnmower. Coworkers and I are going to karaoke tonight but early, and thank goodness its the weekend.

Speaking of! Sewing plans for the weekend are:

At least one buttonhole before I put Jenny away, hopefully two.

Monday morning post:

The results of the inspection were: they want to patch and paint the bathroom wall, and asked me to put the curtain rod and curtain back over the window. OK well I'll try... the reason it's down is because the kittens, when they were a little smaller, tried to get into the window and literally tore it down. The curtain they provided is filled with holes right around window level so it's as good as not having it in there to start with, which is to say, not at all. My lease outlined that the curtain was RECOMMENDED and if it was removed, I would be responsible for any damages to the sill and wall. I'll put it back but no way in heck am I going to put that horrid plastic thing back up to billow in and stick to me. No thank you!

Karaoke on Friday was SO much fun. We had three hours and wasted a good 20 minutes picking songs and kind of feeling out the group vibe, but it was great. I ended up getting home around 10:20, and my ghost cat was MAD about it. I could smell cat urine but as soon as I said "why do I smell cat" out loud and grabbed the scent neutralizer (the only one I've ever found to work well on those enzymes), the smell went away without me spraying anything.

As I was lying in bed, I opened Facebook Marketplace (because it likes to think I want to be notified about it and I hate the notification!) to be greeted with a boxed set of Shadow and Bone & Six of Crows, the one from Costco with the special art one of my favourite fanartists posted about on Instagram! The seller was asking $40, which averages to $8 per book. Yes please and thank you! I arranged to pick it up the next day, and then I did :D

Buttonhole on Meriam trousers sewn, though I have not yet put the button on. I don't like how they fit. Every company will tell you to blend between sizes to accommodate various body features, but I always end up with the ROOMIEST HIPS KNOWN TO MAN when I do that. Like it is exceptionally obvious (to me) that there is an EXCESSIVE amount of fabric, and the hip itself is curved which looks ridiculous. I think what I need to do, with trouser patterns in general, is do a full thigh adjustment on a straight size instead of whatever is suggested. My one-legged mockup of Mitchell trousers, which is a looser trouser, suggests this might be correct. More experimentation needed.

Second buttonhole was not applied as I could not find the item it needed to go on, despite swearing up and down that I saw it recently. Future me can worry about that.

On Saturday, in between picking up the books and going on a cookie adventure with M, I stitched the two bits of linen I had placed on my stays when I thought I would line them yet, and heck, I like how it looks. Pretty much just laid about while the cats used me as a bed, and then took a nap myself. After the cookie adventure, I pulled out a dress I had made in uh... 2014, I think, and never finished or wore, and started unpicking it because I needed the fabric for the new bodice of my Shay dress.

(Side rant there about how at the time, I was participating in the historical sew monthly or whatever time frame it was on Facebook, and I had made the dress from a diagram allegedly from a 1940s magazine. A couple members blasted the project because "no way" would it have the gathered skirt if it was a WWII era magazine. Look pals, I didn't research the magazine and I had no reason to believe it was anything but what it said it was. Really took the shine off it. Blogging was on its way out and Instagram hadn't took over yet, and the clock app was not even a thing, I had very few ways of sharing something I was working on and proud of.)

Yesterday I woke up far too early and while laying about, I decided that I would have a cutting party. I would collect patterns and fabric and cut out as many projects as I could while I had energy/focus. YES great plan, A++. Fell back asleep for a bit, noodled around while I watched the new ep of Criminal Minds, and then it suggested me a true crime series called Under the Bridge. Sure, sounds right up my alley!

IT WAS SO GOOD. (Disney+ for Canadians and probably Americans, it originally aired on Hulu.) It is the first thing I consciously saw Lily Gladstone in and she was fantastic. I was so invested that I ended up cutting out stuff on the floor lol. I didn't want to miss a moment and I only paused between eps to make lunch. It's about the murder of a 14 yo girl in 1997 in Victoria BC (ep 3. called it a small town in the episode blurb and like... modern population counts are 93k, that is not a small town! And then come to find out it takes place in the greater metro area of Saanich which... modern pop is 117k. Y'all. These are not "small towns" they are full-ass cities. REGARDLESS, I thought it was really well done and well-paced and all that fun stuff.

I got a Closet Core Nicks dress cut out (fabric came from a friend, who had bought it off of Aubry, and after i was all done I burnt a scrap to find out it was silk. I should have known, but I was a little surprised lol. Gonna be my most luxurious modern dress ever!) and still have enough left over for a camisole. I was going to cut out a Friday Patina blouse from the black poplin, but it was pretty wrinkly since I last touched it in 2008, and I couldn't be bothered to get the ironing board out. Plus, when I touch it, I can FEEL that it hasn't been washed yet and I HATE it, so I will probably toss it in to the machine when I do some other stuff soon. I DID iron the un-made dress and start laying out my pieces for Shay, but it was getting late by then and I do not try to push past 10pm when I don't have to, nothing good ever happens then. All of the cut pieces have been stored in a smol bin so that the kittens don't have too much fun with them. I laid in bed reading for a bit and that was that!

I also dyed my hair, it was so greasy after a couple weeks of not washing it so it was the perfect time. I am officially out of the teal dye I was using on the underside so time to research that, and I also shaved the side of my head. My bathroom plug doesn't always like to work and I could NOT get it to reset, so I shaved it in my room and totally missed a stripe ahahaha siiiigh. Whatever, my hair is did and it feels great.

Today I should like to go grocery shopping since I haven't done that yet. I totally overspent my budget already... A local dyer put out a super cute set of colours that are LITERALLY my favourites (an icy blue fade to bright pink) and I had a birthday coupon from Hot Topic so... Whoops? I feel kinda bad about it today but, well... The horrors persist. Then maybe do the laundry that includes the sheets so I can wash the poplin too.
