maybe not sick...
Oct. 8th, 2024 09:32 amIDK what's going on. Probably allergies. I wake up super stuffed and growly, and then it clears once I've been up for a bit. It wasn't happening on the weekend, so clearly I must be allergic to work ;)
On Friday I bought a dark green thread which still isn't dark enough but its close, so I started stitching the skirt. It's going together really well! I got seams and placket done and the pockets together before it was too late to keep going. In the AM, I finished the pockets and started to place them before I went to my friend's place, and only then realized that I made the wrong size. Whoops! It wasn't a big difference, but it was big enough. The directions noted that pockets are very low in this era, and you might want to adjust them, so I pinned one in the drafted place and moved the second one up to compare.
At my friend's house, I sewed an entire sleeveless blouse and cut out a pair of Mitchell trousers I've had set aside for some time. She has plenty of floor space and no fuzzy helpers to assist. I cut the pattern as I had done earlier this year, and started basting some layers together, as much as I could without needing to mark darts or whatever. And then I ran out of bobbin thread so I called it a day, which happened to coincide with her ability to people (we discussed that too, she knows she can tell me that and I won't be offended, and I wasn't. I was running out of steam too!). At home, I compared the two sides of pockets, moved the lower one up as I knew I would, made dinner, then stitched pockets into place and the remaining seams. Finished the night with hand-whipping the raw edge of the front seams separately, so I could press the seam open. It really did make a difference. All of the sewing that night happened in the span of the run of The Princess Bride.
Sunday morning, I mounted the skirt onto the band, and I probably should have pleated the back instead of gathering it, because I ran into the same issue I had with Wearing History's skirt pattern, where it just looks bunchy and weird. And since I made my band out of BRIGHT PINK fabric, I took the time to slip stitch it down so it wouldn't show as much. Then I stitched hooks and eyes in and hung it up. I need to do the snaps yet, which I will do probably tomorrow. My sibling and I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which I enjoyed very much, and since I was THAT CLOSE to the bookstore I popped in. On Friday I was feeling flush and ready to buy a stack, but at that moment I didn't, so I bought one book and left.
Before I'd gotten in the car, I noticed that my right front tire was legit flat, it had a definite "foot". Was it actually? Did it just need to run a bit and repressurize? Got to the theatre and nope, still flat. Damnit. I popped into the nearest gas station, right behind the mall, and it ACTUALLY had a working tire gauge! I've been to several air pumps in the last month or so and none of them had working gauges! Since I had to pay to use it (grrr) I spent time on all of the tires, even the ones that didn't look like they needed air, and they were all low. Now I have properly pressured tires, and the one that was flat was still holding air last night.
Yesterday I slammed through Don's project while I did laundry and it's so silly, i love it. All of the bibs are sewn and have their neck straps stitched, it's just needing the lettering now. Tonight I am going to M&J's house for double dancing, so tomorrow I will get back to the skirt. It needs the snaps and a hem facing and a good press.
I washed most of my new fabrics last night too, so they are ready to be pressed and cut into their projects. Much to look forward to.
Thanksgiving is this weekend. Some local peeps are going to a store that has open studio days and I think they have large tables for cutting. If not, I have pants to sew, and I can prepare a shirt or two before I go. On Sunday, my aunt is hosting dinner so that's prime knitting time. Monday is up in the air yet, not sure if my friend's (with the puppers) will be hosting a dinner and on which day. Next weekend is the Evanescence concert, so on the Saturday we will be going through Gramma's things, then concert, then her memorial. Phew, busy busy.
No updated cross stitch picture yet. Honestly I haven't been working on it, perhaps the hyper focus has passed. Not bad for 2.5 months tho. Also having sewing projects with a deadline is "helping?" lol. I need to have the skirt done by Friday and photos complete over the weekend. Now I'm trying to plan a photo shoot too!
