I feel weird posting in-progress stuff to the Official Blog, so enjoy some bad photos ;)
I've been soooooooooooo skeerd to cut out the Georgian gown, afraid I'll mess up somehow and ruin it forevers and evers! I was scared last weekend and then discouraged when I realized I didn't have enough of the fabric I wanted to use. I picked up some linen/cotton blend at the holiday sale on the 1st, and had intended to use it for underpinnings, but then I decided "what the heck" and I'm making the gown out of that instead. It still took me a week to pep-talk myself into actually cutting it though, which I started at around 11pm last night (after cutting and tweaking a lining).
I could not have done this without the internet and
koshka_the_cat's super awesome tutorial holding my hand. And my cousin, and my heterosexual life partner pep-talking me too. I can't remember if I ever was this terrified of "wrecking" Victorian when I started 10 years ago, but I sure am now!
But it was ok. I measured and cut, and dug my mannequin out of her corner (sadly didn't put the underpinnings on until after a lot of other pinning) and got her dressed up and dove right in.
And then this happened...

You can see the serious wrinkle I have at the waist, centre back. What did I do wrong?
Silly me, I forgot to turn up my hem allowance on the lining! GAH! What a rookie mistake. But I wasn't discouraged at all. I unpinned the pleats and made a narrow seam to make it "whole" again, and then recut the skirt.

And quickly pleated out one side....

Much better :)
Then I realized it had been about 8 hours since I'd eaten, and needed to fix that, post-haste D:
