Aug. 7th, 2014 08:31 pmBoo. I've not been having a lot of luck sewing in the last oh, week or so. My cosplay top ended up being WAY too tight (I wouldn't have minded as much, except that I wasn't even close to being ready with the shorts, and the waistband of that would deeeefinitely show through) but of course I didn't find this out until after I'd set the sleeves in by hand. Not to mention, I didn't have any time/money to get fabric for the shorts, and the wool I was going to use from my stash is nearly black and not as light as I wanted. And, it was wool. I'd rather save that for a different project.
Then, my next HSF challenge I'd wanted to make a riding habit, so I finally got the pattern out and made a mockup of the waistcoat. And it is AWFUL. It pulls along the side seam, causing the front to ride up and wrinkle, the underarms are about 2" into my armpit (I can still feel them), and the neckline, even allowing for a seam, is much too tight. I'm not sure I know enough about tailoring to fix it. And it makes me wish I knew more about body blocks and had a good working base pattern.
At least I have a spencer jacket all but fnished that will fill the challenge. It just needs some buttons and buttonholes and the sleeves hemmed and it's done :)
