Sew sew sew
Apr. 22nd, 2016 10:19 pmWe are just under a week from con, so I've been spending a lot of time at Nicole's house, sewing sewing sewing. My jacket is done except for closures, and we've started gluing all the jewels to it. I finished my shirt today. Next up is the vest and a very ruffly neck floofy. I also really want to do a make-up test, but I have NO idea when i'll have time for it.
Tomorrow I take my kitty to the vet and see if he needs extra care. I may or may not cancel all of my plans for the day following that.
Edit: having trouble focusing my thoughts lol
I've been thinking about making some stuff to sell, though I'm not sure of the market. I don't want to get into sewing for a living, cuz it's the first thing I go to when I want to work on a hobby, and I don't want to turn my hobby into my job. But I think if I make a few things, not for me, and then sell them, I would be OK with it. I would want to price them in a range that makes it worth my while to do so, meet a niche market and also deter the kind of people who'd want a full on fancy pants costume for dirt cheap. (Like I'm getting close to the end of a full 8-foot-plus Doctor Who scarf. I want to try and sell it for at least $250; it's hand-knit, I've been working on it since October [off and on, but I timed it out. 8 rows = 15 minutes, times 830 rows...] You want a $50 Doctor who scarf? Go buy a machine-knit factory-made one.) I'm still considering it though. I named my Etsy store after a name I'd picked 10 years ago, and I think I want to change it, but to what?
I got to sew tonight on a really fancy (but still not super-fancy) Babylock machine. What a delightful experience! Especially since I discovered my buttonhole function doesn't work anymore, and this one did, and SO nicely too. Ahhhh!! Loved it :)
