No sewing this week :(
Jan. 24th, 2020 10:37 amHaven't gotten anything new stitched all week. On Monday it warmed up so I thought I'd get a chance to leave the apartment for awhile. Brushed 4" of snow off of my car and then... couldn't move it. Since I don't drive as much these days, I was in a little hollow of packed snow, which now had soft snow on top of it, and I sank right into it and got stuck. So I mocked up the bodice front and apron skirt, watched some Dr Pol, and read a book.
On Tuesday I tried to move the car again. Nope, REALLY super-stuck. Luckily, my bus was early/on time enough that I was able to catch my dad and brother right before they left work, which is roughly 12 blocks away from my apartment, and they stopped by to push me out. Which is when we discovered how soft the snow actually was, as I got re-stuck. But I was FREE!! FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! So I went to get groceries, cuz about all I had left was pasta and chickpeas. I have plans to be out and about until Saturday afternoon, so I parked at the far end of the parking lot, where the snow was packed down and a lot more even than my hollow.
It snowed again on Wednesday. It stopped around 2pm, but it snowed another 4", that I then had to brush off of my car! Grrrr. And it's warm this week, with lows in the barely-minus-teens and highs around 0C. But since I didn't have to fight the hollow, I didn't get stuck this time. Finally saw my lovely friends for burgers and games. Home around 11:30pm.
Thursday is dance night. My teacher/studio owner put classes starting off for a week, because not only did she not want us to get stuck if our cars wouldn't start, but also because the studio gets warm, and we get warm, and then going from inside where we are all nice and warm and sometimes sweaty, to -40, is a surefire way to get a cold. So, they started a week late. It was SO AMAZING to dance again. It's been almost a year since I was able to keep up with these ladies, and they are my very favourite people to dance with.
Tonight is D&D, which I haven't been to since November. Tomorrow, I have a sewing machine repair workshop, and then I am going to my friend's house and will probably do laundry. I should take my silk too so I can cut out the giant skirt panels without Guido's "help". So it'll be Sunday before I get back to stitching anything. But, that's OK too. The book I was reading is the one my e-counselor recommended in the summer and y'all - it's a hard read. Since it's more self-directed therapy work, parts of it, so far, have been like going to therapy. And I know I hold tension in my hands, discovered while seeing an in-person therapist, so my hand is aching. Like, ACHING. My joints hurt and the fingers are stiff, far more than the activities I've been doing this week would cause. An evening and a day spent nurturing my creative and curious side should help dispell some of that.
Hamilton is coming to town next summer. We are starting to plan a costumed group outing :D
