Moving is completely done. I drove a big truck all by myself, my helpers were amazing, we got all the big stuff in one shot. Yesterday my dad and sibling helped me move so much of the little stuff, the stuff that just doesn't pack well or couldn't be packed well, and yargh. It was a bit more exciting than it needed to be. PLUS, I was sorting keys to leave them all there and then left with only the top lock key. I locked the bottom which has a little kobbly, for extra security bc the house was now completely uninhabited, and as I was closing the door I wondered if they had a set to get in the next day? And then it was closed. And I realized that not only did they not have a set of keys, but my new house keys, my bag AND my phone were still inside. And I LITERALLY could not get into the house, the back door locks were not the same key set. I think the upstairs patio window was open, but there was no ladder available that was tall enough. Luckily my neighbours were home and they are AMAZING humans who called a locksmith for me and then kept me company while we waited.
I am so tired, but barring the electric key not working, I won't have to go back. I put my clothes away yesterday and what kitchen i could while some of the kitchen stuff was still in my car. Unloaded the rest, paid a nice man to bring me dinner (does not bode well for future interactions, for some unfathomable reason he went to the back door) and passed out. Today I must begin the sorting of the storage unit that is currently the living room because I want to have the kittens here on the weekend! Thank goodness I could do this on a long weekend. I would not be surviving my work day, let me tell you.
House things I need: a shower head that's not a pressure washer, toilet paper roll holder (the one here is original, it's um. tiny), pantry shelving, whatever type of device needs to go in plaster to hold shit up, and some kind of solution for the shower curtains because I have a window to act as moisture management and the included plastic curtain was TOUCHING ME.

Date: 2023-09-04 10:34 pm (UTC)If it's just plaster over drywall then drywall screws can be used for hanging pictures. Need to make sure if putting up shelving, load bearing things, that the fasteners are going into the studs or wood framing.
If the walls are plaster as in lathe and slat plaster which was used around the 1920s then anything nailed or screwed in will often break the plaster away from the wooden slats inside the wall and create cracks. Same thing about finding studs for shelving, etc., and not screwing into the wooden slats which will not hold anything up. For photos/pictures, there used to be picture molding around the top of the walls that you could get little s type hangers and wire/fishing line from the hanger to the picture. Some art museums still do this.

Date: 2023-09-05 05:26 am (UTC)Older homes sometimes have wood molding at top aka picture rails. The molding is nailed into the wood studs. https://ilevel.biz/hanging-art-on-a-picture-rail/
Then pictures can be hung off the rail.
If your place has molding/rails, these are the cheaper type of hangars instead of the fancy ones https://www.homedepot.com/p/OOK-Brass-Plated-Steel-Narrow-Molding-Hook-2-Pack-50571/100140737
