Jan. 29th, 2024 09:07 amThis past weekend was the opening of a sewing show at the antique mall. My friend and I went a few years ago and had a lovely time so we decided to go again. I remembered on Wednesday that my vague sense of "I planned something..." was correct, but didn't message my friend until Saturday morning. She had forgotten too lol, but wasn't feeling 100% so we've planned to go next weekend. I'm going to be looking for more feet that fit my machine(s) since I already have a ton that don't, a slide plate, maybe some parts if they're available, and a couple other small things.
I messaged another friend who is also a dyer, and I'd committed to buy three skeins of yarn from her before Xmas, but between events and illness and the weather, it just had never been a good time to go. Finally, it was time! She invited me in for coffee and we had a lovely chat. Then I went to the local yarn store to pick up a new knitting needle to replace the one Calcifer chewed on, and a few other things, including yarn. Yes, I know, I have tons. It's not like I committed to a year of sock knitting because I didn't have enough on hand lol. I got a pretty skein of self-striping and a couple acrylics for toy-making. Then I went grocery shopping and finally home.
I finished my weekly WIP challenge as much as I could (last week was NyanCat scarves, rainbow in a cat pouch) and since Sunday is a "free" day, I started a new project! Since my friend posted her AU, I have been OBSESSED with both her fic and WWI-era in general. Namely the clothing, naturally. I wanted to do a nurse costume years ago and it's back in my "heck yes" list. But I also specifically wanted these two characters in those costumes so... I decided I would make them. Among the yarn I picked out was two flesh-tones to make very smol cute dolls with, and I finished one last night except for hair. My hands are so mad about all the crocheting, plus it was kind of late in the day so I didn't start the second one. In my hyperfocus last week, I found a couple resources of war-specific sewing and knitting, which I will link here when I dig them out again. My plan is to dress the dolls in tiny outfits, they're gonna be so stinkin' cute.
This week's challenge make is a sweater. I'd reached a point where I needed to increase and make one more layer of colourwork, which I'd finally noticed that I'd done wrong in the 36 rows preceding. Dang it! I don't think I care enough to rip it back, I'll just make the lower layer match and carry on with my life. After that it's miles of stockinette with two whole purls to mark the area that will be steeked (cut apart).
Realised last night that I totally fucked up my budget. Damnit. So I better start meal planning because I seriously cannot afford to eat out in the next two weeks.
