Dear Diary,
An apartment building down the street was recently turned into condosand they are selling for $180K each. I think they are 1-bedrooms, and the buildings are older ones with no patios and in a pretty shitty neighbourhood. Crackwhores and prostitutes. We have a beat cop. Three people have died in the last year and a half that I heard about. One ofwhich I heard happen.
The building next door has also been converted into condos and are selling for $114K for a studio, and I don't even know what the supposed three-bedrooms are going for but I'm sure it's in the $180K range.
This is scary. You know why? My rent is still rent, and it's going to $750 next month. I make $760 after taxes on my paycheques. If this building goes to condos, there is no way I can afford a mortgage, I'm not eager to get roommates again even though I'm looking at moving into a place with some friends, and no one has rental properties that will take cats. Fuck, no one has rental properties at all, it seems. Dad said that any new buildings going up are going to charge $1600/month to cover construction costs. No one I know makes those kinds of wages. Why do you think that we rent instead of purchase?
The economy is booming, but it's unstable. Mortgages for houses are in the $300Ks for crappy little houses in crappy little neighbourhoods. I can't afford to live anywhere else and I really, really, really don't want to give up my cats.
Gonna go cry now. And maybe wangst all over LJ. Kbye.
