On Sunday, the Blue Man Group was in town :3 I've never claimed to be OMG THE BIGGEST FAN, but the chance to see them was too good to pass up, and I'm glad I went. It was SO AWESOME :D If you've seen "The Complex Rock Tour" DVD, then you already have a good idea what this show was like ;)
About 20 minutes before the show started, there was a scrolling text that began with "Your attention please Please yell if you are paying attention" and went on to determine if there were any megastars in the audience, as well as advertise their site and a contest currently running on it. One of the texts was "if you think drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels and then climbing a palm tree is a good idea Congratulations.... You're Keith Richards" and if you DIDN'T think it was a good idea, then congratulations... you're NOT Keith Richards XD That sort of thing. Then at 7:30, they did a rock concert movement, I forget what number, which was "bringing out an opening act to warm up the audience" and a dude named Mike Relm came out. He had one of those record-scratching machines and was overall rather entertaining. Blue Man finally started around 8.
This tour is called "How to be a Megastar 2.1". They have a new "How to be a Megastar" tape that they buy at the beginning of the show, "using" a credit card number from an audience member. It covers most of the same rock concert movements from the Complex Rock Tour, and some new ones like "tribute to Banjo the Clown", which is when you hold up your pinky and index fingers and wave your hand in the air like everyone does at rock concerts these days ;) That was accompanied by a clip of Banjo the Clown, who has hair that looks like the fingers. Most of the songs were the same too, and the vocalists were not the same from the Complex DVD (nor was the band the same, I don't think) but overall, it was so great :D No DVD can prepare you for the sound of that suspended drum that they whack with a rubber mallet, which just vibrates through your chest and assaults your ears. The audience participation moments were fun; at one point one of them walked literally 5 people away from where I was sitting; they're really blue! It looks like a lighter shade of blue on TV, but it's really dark. They gave two people souvenirs, one by spitting paintballs onto a blue shirt they made him wear, and another by the same, only with one drop of paint, and then by catching at least a dozen marshmallows in his mouth as tossed by another from the other side of the stage, and then making a little mashed-up marshmallow tower onto a cap they stuck on her head XD
It was a really awesome show and I'd go see it again in a heartbeat if I could :D
