Back to sewing
Jan. 3rd, 2018 06:38 pmI threw away the thimble that gave under the pressure of my needle. It now has a perfect hole in it, and it was made of a thin aluminium (or something malleable and shiny), so it wasn't going to work for my needs much anymore. I have a thicker metal one, and failing that, a couple of ceramic ones. I wonder if I should replace the needle too, as it has now tasted human flesh and might hunger for more >.> My fingertip hurt yesterday, but not today. Thank goodness. I'm just hoping I don't get tetanus.
Despite my precaution in bumping up the heat so the pipes wouldn't freeze during the cold snap, my poor neighbour came home today and found a waterfall in his bedroom, right beneath mine. Damn it! My landlady came up right away to have a look, and luckily the office is closed this week so I could take off at 4 to move things out of the way. The plumber came around 5; my floor is bone dry, so the leak is somewhere below the floor. Double damn it! At least it was probably not my fault, I know better than to keep a cool apartment when it's nearly -40! The radiator was so noisy all week, it was definitely working. Last year's leak happened during a -30C snap too. Hmm I wonder if the crack in my wall is also the cause of the leakages (since I suspect the crack happened thanks to the tree that has since been cut down).
Even though I already have my sewing plans in motion, I still need to make decisions on what to make next. I won't have an outfit ready for the tea, as that's on Sunday (wondering if I can fake it with a NF skirt and mid 1880s bodice? That's done at least... Also the host will not care if I'm perfectly period or not, it's definitely my brain that's getting in the way). I should probably do Regency next, as that will be needed for the end of February. My inspiration gown is a cross-over front that's open neck to hem, but it's also made of a flowier fabric than the taffeta I picked out in LA. And call me silly, but I kind of want to hand sew it. So I better get started on that soon ;)
