Pattern adjusting win!
Apr. 15th, 2018 07:32 pmEver since I figured out what I needed to do on AD's sacque pattern to make it stop gaping over my chest, I've been on A Mission (tm) to make adjustments to other patterns. I made a dress last year that had a HUGE amount of excess fabric in the boobs and I made it work, but it was kind of a pain. Today I finally sat down to make the adjustments on the pattern itself rather than to the fabric. I almost gave up, thinking it just wasn't the pattern for me, but damnit, it's got a shirtdress option, and I desperately need shirt dresses in my life. The only issue now is that some of the excess came out of the armscye without affecting fit, so I need to adjust the sleeves too.
And it hurt to do but.. I pulled all the pins out of the front of my sacque petticoat front. The back is fine but the front weirdly puddled on the right side? Even though the lengths of fabric are fine? I don't understand, but it needs to be done. SIGH. I thought I'd work on the riding habit again too, but that didn't happen.
Yesterday I sat down with my antique Singer and cleaned her up and oiled her. That was fantastic! I even got the bobbin winder working, sort of. The tension arms have a spring behind it that's broken around the casing, so I need to hold it against the wheel to work, but that's ok. She makes a beautiful stitch. Next up: the Seamstress. I need to find a hand crank for it, or brave the electicals.
The other Big Thing I accomplished this weekend was dying my hair. It was a big ol' rooty mess.
Still thinking about my CoCo options. I think I'm close to a decision. I've 98% decided to drop anything Victorian. For one thing, I wouldn't have time/energy/brains to trim it. But I've also got some brilliant yellow/pink set aside for like, 1830s? and I'm tickled by the idea of fancy dress? (but undergarments are an issue, esp if I need to bring my split rump for anything 18th c.) I need to decide like.... soon. I've got 3 months left D:
