Hark, a whole week has passed

And it's been a hot mess. Literally.

Temps are expected to be The Surface of the Sun this week, locally. We're talking record setting highs. We're talking a 140F difference from our lows in February of -41. We're talking our ridiculous premier oh so excited to get his cronies in oil and gas back to making carbon emissions so he has half a shot at being re-elected in far-too-fucking-long-from-now. We're talking everyone completely ignoring public health mandates before restrictions officially lift in a few days bc it's so hooooot.

Alright, I'm grumpier today than I thought I was. People, check your gd privilege for one hot second, for the love of pete.

No sewing all week, and esp not on the weekend. I had a picnic on Saturday (88F), I had a birthday picnic for one of my besties on Sunday (not sure, cooler than Saturday but not by much). I spent the rest of the time hiding out in my house with it's central AC, thinking about fanfiction and how I can support marginalized groups. I don't have money or a lot of energy bc my brain hates me but I turn into a fucking lobster within 10 minutes of sun exposure and that has to count for something more than not getting pulled over by police every 5 minutes.

Capsule Wardrobes

I was looking at some pattern sites for ideas on what kind of things I can make to put into my wardrobe for work. Deer and Doe has a capsule wardrobe book which contains a few patterns, and then their preview included the pieces mixed and matched, plus a diagram list of all the pieces included in the capsule.

Yesssssss this "chart" is a goldmine.

Tops
Knits: scoop neck, v-neck, long-sleeve mock-turtleneck, sleeveless mock-turtleneck
Woven: cap sleeve scoop neck pullover, elbow sleeve v-neck button-front, cap sleeve v-neck button-front
Carigans: mid-length cardigan, duster-length cardigan

Bottoms
Skirts: midi-length, knee length
Pants/shorts: mid-rise tapered ankle length, mid-rise mini-short, high-waisted short, high-waisted wide-leg crop

Dresses
short-sleeve midi-length, short-sleeve knee-length, knee-length shift

I don't know why this was so complicated in my brain. I have most of these patterns already. It's mostly a matter of what's in my fabric bins, especially for knits, which I haven't bought a lot of.

I can make t-shirts. I have Deer and Doe's free shirt already. I have another company's free shirt whose name escapes me atm. I have a unisex turtleneck pattern which is a shapeless sack but I do have it (esp for fall)

For woven shirts, I have a couple pattern options, plus D&D has a dress pattern which comes with a shirt option I can use as inspo (not in the budget to purchase until mid-July). I have mostly quilting cottons but a few lighter fabrics in both cotton and rayon and at least one poly.

I have SO MANY SKIRT OPTIONS. As long as I wear shorts under them, I am much more comfortable with wearing these (plus one of their models had legs that looked like mine, and she looked great).

Pants I am working on. I can't wear shorts at work that are shorter than 4" above the knee, but perhaps I can work some of those options into knee-length capri-styles.

Dress, same as skirts. So many options, it's a matter of fit. I need to explore the "narrow shoulder-larger bust but also belly and hips" fit that defies modern blocks.

One pattern I don't have is a dedicated cardigan. I've been needing to replace my light knit open cardi for well over a year, and just haven't. I will also add cropped cardis and handknits to my wardrobe, bc they are just so darn cute esp with high-waisted options.
