Oh heck, this past month lolololol. My usual holiday job was open this year, so I spent 3-4 days a week there, and as a result I had zero brain power. I have spent my rare free time knitting, working on a shawl that was supposed to be done by the end of October (hahaha), NEON yellow socks, and tiny tree socks.

For whatever reason, the sewing room holds the most memories of of Guido, so I haven't spent hardly any time down there. Maybe because I'm still mentally prepared to do Poop Patrol. Maybe because there's still vomit spots because trying to clean up dried vomit from bare concrete is terrible. Maybe because I still remember him leaving me alone until he wanted attention, and then he would come yell at me. Or sit on my stools, or my corset coutil. I've pretty much only been in there to tear it apart looking for an item I'd had listed on Etsy or to hang my air-dry laundry items.

But I did go in there 2 weekends ago to clean up the pile of clothing discarded from my October picnic and then started to work on a quick sewing project. I had to stop to go grab brunch with my bff and her fiance and they came over to grab a pair of fabric roll purchases that had been delivered to our house.

She looked at our lawn, perplexed, and said "you have grass." Yup, no snow cover. What there was had melted away.

WELL. Then we got absolutely DUMPED on. It had drifted in places over the top of my boots. Of course that was the day I had to drive, because I felt a rough spot on my tooth the previous week and within an hour it had broken, so I had a sharp pokey hole in my mouth, and my dentist was going to check it out for me. Later that day, i slipped and fell on the sidewalk as I was rushing to the bus. I had work that night, and as I was walking home, the street had been laminated and polished into the most perfect sheet of ice, and I totally biffed it in front of a line of stopped vehicles. My butt really hurt, and I hit my elbow when I went down. It was a very uncomfortable couple of days.

THEN, the next day, it was still pretty slippery and I went down in a snow bank trying to climb it, and it split my coat's zipper! I didn't think much of it, and wore it the next day, but as soon as I sat down on the bus, it split again. I might get a replacement installed because I really like the coat, but it was now useless to me. And of course, it was on one of the coldest days of the season (so far), so I needed a new one ASAP! My roommate was home the next day and let me wear her coat to work and back. I spent Friday researching coats, and Saturday went to buy one. It's very warm!

I ended up working all weekend bc one person had just come back from a trip (don't get me started), and couldn't come in. More $$ for me! Brain power dwindling. Could not spend the whole weekend binging the Witcher.

Monday I got my tooth fixed. Wisely chose to watch Kung Fu Panda during the procedure, which lasted the entire movie. I've seen it so many times, "watching" is a stretch lol. Yay no more hole! It's only just started being able to accept pressure this morning.

Tuesday was my last day at the holiday job, and we were SLAMMED. Saturday should have been our busiest day of the entire month, but it wasn't, it was Tuesday! One person and I started at 5:30 and we didn't stop until 8:20. It was nuts!

Now it's getting cold again and I'm very grateful for my new coat. My extra money this month was going to go towards a new laptop, but instead I had those expenses. But the two extra days at the holiday job should give me juuuuust enough to squeak that in. I already ordered it, there was a decent sale on ending tonight. Hopefully it will last longer than my last one.

Just a 3.5 more hours as we have a short day at work, and then I am free for four whole days! Woohoo!!

We'll see how much of this happens, but I'm feeling inspired right now, so let's make a project list ;)

Sewing
  • Work on the UFO list, I won't detail it here but it's stuck to a corkboard
  • Green silk jacket to go with the matching silk petticoat
  • Really work on my fit issues - full belly; square shoulders; full, low bottom
  • Because I'd really like to get some fitted items made, like stays
  • Finish my suit project. I left off with a waistcoat draft.
  • Really make an effort to get the room cleaned and set up the way I want. Some day I'll get it finished and painted but for now, let's focus on layout.

Knitting
  • Finish shawl
  • Finish roomie's mitts
  • More tiny socks
  • Begin to make a dent in my sleeves (1/6 complete) before I'm allowed to make new sleeved projects
  • Hat cast on for Christmas (I deserve it)
  • More socks. I think I don't like wool socks until it's -20C out and then they are the best things ever.
  • In that vein, more adventurous socks. I picked out a couple lace patterns I want to try.
