One of the pairs of pants I picked up on the weekend fit SO WELL without alterations, in a similar style to Closet Core's Mitchell trousers. It was 100% wool fabric, with the fancy "all wool" label you see in coats sometimes, and the designer tag was Oscar de la Renta. Colour me surprised! I got this pair of pants for like $4! The legs were far too long and there was a 3" hole in the right seam, which ended up being some broken threads so dead easy to fix.
Yesterday I stitched that hole closed, measured the inseam to 30", folded up the 4.25" to test the length -- it was good, plus I needed to take the back in a little. Pressed the hems in place, marked and cut, folded in and stitched in place. (totally visible, I could not be assed to hand stitch or bust out the only machine that does blind hems)
Back was a little tricky, but mens pants tend to be made with the waistband attached to each half and then the back seam is stitched from waistband all the way down. It makes fitting a little easier, but I wasn't sure about the order of steps in how the waistband was then secured into position. I'm almost certain I got it out of order, but that's ok. Took the back in half an inch on each side and that was the perfect amount. After stitching and trimming, I tried to stitch in the ditch to hold it down. Not perfect, but it's fine. Anyone who's close enough to see what I did and clock me for it is FAR TOO CLOSE.
Now I have a new pair of trousers! The front doesn't fit totally the way I would have tried to had I made it from scratch, and that's fine. I have ~*~ designer ~*~ trousers for pocket change. They have pockets that are MASSIVE (I think I'm going to short then too lol). They're WOOOOOOOOOL.
Spent the rest of the evening in a more or less horizontal position, held down by a cat. Still haven't slept for more than 4 hours at one go. Might do groceries tonight.
