Actually, to further my pointless point - It can be pronounced dahy-uh-bee-tis. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/diabetes) :)

but there's no -us markers ;_; It's spelt -es, which is NOWHERE CLOSE to a U sound.

Clearly, the dictionary is wrong. I must go back in time to fix it *crosses arms stubbornly*

....then again, Firefox's spellchecker is telling me that "spelt" is spelt wrong >.>
