I'm trying to remember to post more often than I have been. In a follow-up to the last post, cat is staying with friends. I've decided to leave him there until after the second spray on the 18th. My place is so small, my "usable" space is literally twice as big as the couch. I have way too much stuff. I seriously don't need 4 boxes of VHS tapes and a box of cassette tapes and I forget how many boxes of things I haven't looked at it in at least 6 years. And this is an IMPROVEMENT. But he likes to climb, so for sure he'd be enjoying the boxes stacked nearly to the ceiling, and then I remembered the day he fell off the back of the TV stand (not sure how, it was built for a beast of a CRT and I've got a tiny LCD on there now) and nearly got stuck. What if some of the boxes toppled while he was on them and he got hurt or stuck and I was at work? Plus it's been hovering in the -30C range (-20 and windchill) and he'll have to be removed again anyway...

I miss him like crazy. I knew I would. Every day so far I get ready to meow at him when I come in the door cuz he's always there meowing at me, and I keep being prepared to scoot him out of the way in the morning as he tries to get under my feet and there's nothing... At least he's in good hands. My friends have had cats before and they have none now, so they are really enjoying his company.

Last night I unpicked all the seams on my curtains. Tonight I'm going to iron them. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting (seriously, nearly 2 months) for fabrics-store.com to put the linen I really NEED on sale so I can make a shift for my 18th century stuff. I nearly missed the sale yesterday. It's shipped already :) So that's exciting.

Back in dance class, it's haaaard. I keep listening to my song hoping that my hips will get with the program and move as fast as they need to. I have a feeling I'm going to be quite sick of it by the time the recital comes around lol. But it is a good kind of hard. Beginner level again would just be TOO easy. I'm ready for this kind of challenge.

I want to plan for cons but I just don't know which ones I can make quite yet :( Seattle I miss youuuuuu.

I'd be lying if i said that wasn't at least half the reason I want to come down too ._. Hanging out and food and costumes what? I need to find out if I get any extra time off and/or work out a budget.

I'm inclined to think I'd be day-tripping it again, although I won't have Alana this year -__- And damn it there is a costume I would LOVE to have, but there's not a chance in fucking hell G will be able to make it in time, because I won't get a cash infusion until the beginning of April and that's not enough notice...because it is fucking INVOLVED.

But yeah, sad to have no Alana, although I've been debating seeing if I can do some finagling and get her for at least Friday/Saturday.

See, I want that to be a thing that happens but realistically it will not be a thing that happens. But go go gadget obscure cosplay!

I may well be able to finagle after all. Sakuracon hits at a REALLY good time for my budget this year, I get my grant refund check like three weeks prior so I'll actually -- gaspu -- have money. It'd be another day-trip though if I've got the midget. I don't think I'd feel comfortable -- or make anyone else all that comfortable -- if I have her in a hotel room prior to age 12. I honestly don't think I'll cosplay this year, though, even though I've still got her dress. SHE can cosplay. I may well just cosplay as myself.

EDIT: A thought for you, since you're the seamstress. I want her skirt to POOF more than it does, but I'd really rather not buy another petti unless I have to. Do you think that, with the application of a shitload of tulle, I could modify the other one to be power-poof?

A liberal application if tulle should work, yes. You'd get the best cupcake-like poof with tiers but that can be a goddamn pain in the ass :/ (I made my last petti in about 5 hours but ugh it's one of my least favourite things to do ever) Several layers gathered or pleated to a waistband would likely be sufficient.

Have money at a con? Le gasp!! Lol. Sometimes it's a pain being a responsible adult too XD

Urgh. Cupcake poof is what I want, bad. I'm thinking of sewing vigorous amounts of tulle onto the existing petti, so I already have a base to work from (and I figure that will save work). Although there's also the random idea of buy hoopskirt, apply tulle, get MEGA CUPCAKE EFFECT, but that might be more than I feel like doing. The problem is that her skirt is heavy and multilayered, so it weighs a lot of poofiness down.

I was looking up hoops before I left work and that would probably be the best-case scenario to get SUPER POOFAGE that doesn't flatten under the weight of the skirt lol. But also a pain cuz all the ones I saw you would have to modify in some way to either get the cupcake effect (most of them were one or two hoops more triangular in shape than rounded) or not have visible hoop lines (grrr pet peeve). I don't recall what her petticoat looked like but a lot of tulle and a lot of patience (and probably some booze) should do ;)

GAH so true. Sadly I like having a roof over my head esp on a day like today when it's -35 out :( SOOOOOOOOOOO done with winter.

Her skirt has enough layers that I anticipate no visible hoop lines; there are at LEAST three full layers to that skirt so it's not going to look like a cheap piece of shit. I found a three-hoop version (http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-HOOP-FLOWER-GIRL-BRIDAL-WEDDING-GOWN-PETTICOAT-SLIP-UNDERSKIRT-CRINOLINE-SKIRT-/380681189802?pt=Girls_Wedding_Apparel&hash=item58a25df9aa), and I may go for that, and then try to MacGyver it into SUPER CUPCAKE. Even if I don't succeed, though, three hoops ought to provide a substantial amount of support and the tulle can further mitigate hoop lines. I'm thinking lots and lots and LOTS of tulle, closely gathered together?

That's reaaaally similar to the one I was looking at (I try to avoid places like ebay while at work D: Amazon sure, ebay no way) so that should be fine :D Tulle like its going out of style, ba-bam. I think the generic ratio is 1:2 or 1:3 for each tier and you could do 3-4 tiers. 1:3 would be extra cupcakey.

1:3 meaning 3" of tulle for every 1" of fabric I'm sewing it on? I'll have to mess with it. She might not even wear the dress, rendering this whole discussion moot, but -- dammit, I wanna cupcake girl!

I've already warned her mommy will probably not be cosplaying. Which is fine with me, I want all the attention on her little cuteness.
