totchipandaPHEW. I've just spent about... 4 hours formatting my most recent novel. I started it because one of the sponsors is offering a free print copy and ebook copy, with the code expiring at the end of the month. But their program is not intuitive AT ALL and I can't quite get it to work the way it should. It likes to replace text from one chapter with a complete version of the next, but then it won't format the special fonts that are part of the template and I just don't get it :/ So then I spent a bit of time compiling all of the text into one file for my beta readers, and got that sent off too. I promised myself over a year ago that I would have a novel ready for shopping about if I chose to by mid-August, and it will be here before I know it.
I had more to talk about, but one of said readers then told me that there's an anime con in Kansas who is getting a guest I would very seriously consider cutting off a limb to go see, so I got distracted by looking up flights and/or driving directions and... it's really probably not feasible. It would be about $1000 to fly/hotel, and who knows how much in terms of driving (25-26 hours, over 5000 kms round-trip, which is half of my current yearly insured amount, I've already put almost 1k km on the odometer since I got the car a month ago....) I gotta say, I'm a little sad. The first time I had a chance to see them, I couldn't go because someone else was on vacation and I couldn't take the time off too; the second time I couldn't afford flights/was unwilling to spend 3 days on Greyhound (it was about a year after the last disatrous looooong Greyhound trip I took...); and the last time, I didn't even find out about it until 2 months after the fact. Pah :(

(http://jrockrevolution.com/2015/01/news/hizumi-to-appear-at-naka-kon-convention-in-overland-park-ks-this-march-5076) I'm really crushed that unless the work pool lottery gets lucky, I'll be stuck here mid-March and missing out -again- :( But I'm also hoping that if he's making appearances as former-band and now-designer, there'll be other cons.
