I can feel my energy coming back! Yay!

On Wednesday night (pre-energy return), I saw some lovely pictures of a Jane Austen evening, of which one dress inspired me. Nicole had given me a sari in the first few months that we'd known each other (our 10 year friendiversary is this year) that had been sitting in my stash ever since. I finally knew what I wanted to do with it, and I started to cut it apart. Then I sat down to eat supper and that was the end of my sewing adventures that day. Thursday we finished the coats I'd made in September. Friday I made the bodice and cut out the sleeves. Saturday morning, the day of the ball, I got up early and put the sleeves on, and started the skirt, which I then attached after I got back from dance class. It was so worth the effort. I am so pleased with my new dress. We had such a good time at the ball. I'm really happy the ball was on a Saturday this time, too. It was well after midnight when I got home, having been up since 7am and doing dance class too. I'm STILL tired.

Nicole had worn a plastic-boned waist-cincher for about an hour last night before discovering why plastic-boned shapewear blows monkey chunks. She pulled it off and the plastic had deformed and was cutting into her waist. I asked her if I could pull it apart to use the busk and she said sure. I want to make a long-line corset this year (2 years after I first meant to...) but I need a short busk. I can't buy locally and shipping for one busk is a bit silly. The busk is 10.75" long. Perfect!

As part of my "get my shit together" plan, I've decided to stop sewing for all of the genres I'm interested in. I've decided to clear out my gothic lolita things, including my sewing books, and to cut back on the eras I sew for. I have so few events to go to, and I want to keep sewing for events I can reasonably expect to attend. I haven't been to an SCA event in 4 years and as much as I love Elizabethan, that's about the only place I can wear those kinds of clothes. So, no new Elizabethan projects. I might still finish the gown I started in 2008, but I might also decide to sell the unfinished pieces and extra fabric for someone else to complete. I found the bodies I made at the same time that didn't fit well. I had put the money into steel boning for it, so I salvaged the bones this morning, and will use the lacing part as boned lacing strips for future fitting projects. Now I have some steels I can use in the long-line corset :)

In other news, I want to work out my patterns for Tauriel, I have some editing to do on a story I wrote and submitted for a short fiction anthology, and a buttload of dishes to do. And a nap is definitely on my to-do list today.
