I think it's fair to say that I am depressed. I recognized it late last week/early this week when I tried to talk myself into just... throwing money around. Money I definitely do not have. That happens every February. Today when I got home even though I'm rather hungry I'm just not super interested in eating and that is a definite hallmark. I'm preeeetty sure that even though I do go through a mini-depression every summer, it's safe to call this one a direct result of worrying over my grampa.
I just can't find non-striped sock yarn for the same price I can get online. I need a pineapple reticule. Need. American friends, what is yarn-shopping like in the States (and especially Spokane/Seattle areas)?

Date: 2015-07-10 05:47 am (UTC)Mostly I REALLY want to find sock yarn that isn't striped that doesn't also cost me $10+. I could order it online (and I might anyway) but to get the best shipping price I have to order X amount and I could possibly avoid that if I buy in person. Cuz I also need TARDIS socks.
Up here (in Edmonton at least) there's pretty much only Michael's, De Serres, a local business that mostly runs online, and a yarn store that's hella pricey. And none of them have what I want.

Date: 2015-07-10 05:59 am (UTC)I can't speak for Seattle itself but we have Michaels and Joann's, which is a gigantic fabric/craft store. We'll have a Hobby Lobby soon but I'll be damned if I ever set foot in that store, evar. I do have a local yarn shop that's just made of beautiful, and for what they sell their prices are pretty good. But they sell the high-end shit, so.
So what you're telling me is you need royal blue, black, and white sock yarn.

Date: 2015-07-10 06:55 am (UTC)I know I'll be going to Joann's cuz holy crap a: fabric chain we don't have (we have ONE brand up here, and a discount store, and a butt-ton of quilting stores) and b: simplicity patterns! Sometimes living in Canada is a pain. Sometimes
I actually have white and black already, but need to obtain TARDIS blue and also pineapple-appropriate shades of yellow and green (look up big damn pineapple on ravelry, it is a thing of glorious beauty!) I had some shawl-making yarns in my cart to bump me over the shipping limit but I do t really need to work on shawls atm.

Date: 2015-07-10 07:35 am (UTC)You'll like Joann's. Just make sure you get to a newer one, because HUGE. The older ones aren't nearly so big and fun and full of fabric-yarn-y joy.
Also I will happily go raid Canvas Works and see if I can find the appropriate shades of blue, yellow, and green in sock yarn.
