Knitting up a storm

I'm sooooo close to finishing dad's scarf. I pushed hard and tried not to abuse my hands/wrists/elbow/shoulders too badly, and cast it off last night. I've got probably 2/3 of the end-weaving done, and then one more batch of tassels and boom! Done!

I've tentatively decided on wearing Hogwarts uniform for Halloween this year and when I got to the end of the scarf, I thought hmm, I've never knot a sweater before, should I attempt to knit a uniform sweater before Halloween? You probably heard the shock wave as I decided suuurrreeeee!! Why not? Lol.

I have a ball of dark grey wool that was part of the stuff o got from dad, so it was purchased to be part of a doctor who scarf but he's got at least four now, so NO haha. I was going to use that, and then I decided that I wanted to use a different Colour, and now I'm not so sure? The ball o have is a dark grey with a warm blue undertone, and I was thinking I'd use a more "cool" grey mix, but now I'm thinking the mix is too light. I went to the store today to see what they had, and I'm still torn. If I'm going for a Azkaban and later sweater, then I need a dark sweater. Most of my accessories are from the later movies (purchased or made after Azkaban, as Goblet was the first one I had a costume for) so I'm very sure that's the sweater I want. But now do I choose this warm dark grey, go for black, or attempt to find a dark cool grey? Why do I love to complicate things for myself so much?

The site I found the pattern on actually recommends the warm grey as a very acceptable alternative to black for the later movies, and I'll probably go with it because then I can start it today. So there's that. On the other hand, I've got more scarves to knit...

And I really hate the yarn I frogged to make the Sontag. its so stiff and has no appreciable hand at all. I've got a couple balls of greeny-brown heather I can use instead.

Ooh, that makes me feel special! :)

I personally would go with what you have - always good to stash-bust! That said, if you really wanted to buy new, I would definitely stick to gray, and not black. I don't think they ever wore black sweaters! I think it's really cool that you're going to knit your own Hogwarts sweater though. :)

I did some hurried image searching and it seems like the sweaters are an almost exact match to the pants/skirts but of course it can be so hard to tell with monitors/lighting. I really think I'll just stick to what I have, so much easier :) plus at $7 a ball, then it's one less for me to buy! :D
