First Thanksgiving without Grampa. I may come back another day and write some FEELINGS down, but I'm sure anyone who's lost a beloved family member already knows how I'm feeling.

Tomorrow I am going to do my damnedest to do Grampa proud and make turkey dinner. I was his sous chef for many years, first for most suppers, and then after I moved to Edmonton, for the special ones. He always had the turkey started by the time we arrived so I'm not 100% sure what to do with that, but I'm sure I can figure it out. And I can definitely do the rest of the supper no problem.

Note to self: wear supportive shoes. My feet are too unhappy these days when I stand for any appreciable amount of time without shoes on. That includes the time it takes to do the dishes.

Tonight/early tomorrow: grocery shopping. I require a turkey, a stick of lard (for pie dough), some pie-makings, veggies, cream, butter.

Saturday: make pies in the morning. Clean the apartment. Prepare potatoes for later boiling. Get turkey started. Make ALL THE FOOD.

Sunday/Monday: give some serious thought to tidying up the apartment more and what I can take to charity (since I am pretty sure we'll have a bedbug spray in the near future), finish my stays so I can start on the gown and spencer, get out the things I need for other sewing projects, maybe start them, maybe knit, practice zills, finish Bones season 10 so I can start Supernatural season 10 :D

I don't have a thermometer D: But grampa always said low heat + time = delicious! I was never around for the start of turkey-making, but definitely at the end. I think I'll be ok. And the rest really will be fine, I've been making mashed taters and gravy and all the rest for years :D

So true! I got 99% of the recipe things when they moved into the assisted living facility, but aside from perogies and Christmas cookies, there isn't really anything holiday-related in there. Grampa gave me 15 years of "throw it in a pan and hope it works" and that's gonna have to be good enough :3
