Well nuts. My coworker and I have been playing Pokemon Go at lunch these past 2 days, and then this morning I had to get up at dark o clock to pee, and couldn't get back to sleep right away (Fuck right off, anxiety). So I was hitting my REM sleep right when I needed to be getting up. I forgot both my book and my 2DS at home. Boring lunch is boring.

I've spent my whole morning looking at costume blogs. I've decided that I will definitely be making a new corset. Why? Who knows. I don't actually need one. There's been some really pretty ones posted of late that make me want to use this lovely blue satin I have for one, as I only have 1 metre and no other ideas. Then I was reading fashions of the gilded age the other night and finally read the back pages in volume 2, which are about dressmaking techniques and the like. One section is about corsets, and I was extra-intrigued by the first descriptions of corsets - coutil corsets are one layer of fabric, and silk ones are 2, the other layer being linen. Whaaaaat? I got epically distracted along the way, reading past posts about corset myths and trying to find ones made by current costumers with similar materials (also didn't get very far there, but it seems that most people have made 3-layers corsets) before going to the Met's collection, but then it was lunch time and I'm writing this post instead. I'll get back to my research after, but what do y'all think? How do you construct corsets? Will a single layer of linen and probably-poly satin be enough? I don't know what pattern I will be using yet, and boning will be zip ties. Experiment time!

Last night I was talking with Nicole and I want to at least plan for one American con next year. There will be lots of factors to consider, the least of which being that my finances still suck. My mum wants to go to Sakuracon, which I do love and want to go to again, one of my local friends attends A-Kon in Dallas at the beginning of June which also sounds fun (except for Texas in June, if it's even remotely like Texas in August...) and my preferred option, Costume College. Nicole said she'd hate me if I went without her but did allow that i should if I could lol. Her attendance would be complicated by D23 in mid-July, but my schedule is currently clear. There's just so much to consider. As it stands right now, it's a very distant possibility. Am I switching jobs in the next year? Moving at the end of my lease? Further vet care for my cat? Did i epically duck up my car when I jumped a curb around Christmas and drove over a concrete parking bar last week? I don't know yet... (Also OMG scary. Thanks, anxiety. I love seeing the pictures and hearing the stories, and I want to do all the things and meet all the people!! And then Rex stomps in and I get all panicky and I haven't even done all the things or met all the people yet. Fun! Fuck you Rex! Imma do all the things and meet all the people anyway!)

Right. Well that's what's happening in costume-land for me. This weekend is my summer con, and then I can start on fun projects. My fall con does include costumes that need corsets, hmmmmmm...
