Sewing plans
Dec. 18th, 2017 09:11 pmI don't think I made this last year. Here's what I wrote out the other week:
18th Century
Regency
Victorian
Just now I thought to add:
Edwardian
I'm a little sad that I can't think of more Victorian I want to do right now. I had a realization a couple weeks ago, after a long day and a too-narrow-waisted pair of pants (my own fault, a little, I had them tailored in the morning), is that I absolutely hate having my waist compressed. Stays were fine at CoCo, and my corset was too, but I'd put the drawers on under it and the band is a little too small, and be the end of the day I couldn't wait to rip those suckers off. It makes me concerned for the under-petticoat the AD book talks about - I totally get its purpose and I;m not sure how well that will work for me. I'll have to think abou that. For my supposed favourite era, I have not been doing any Victorian sewing in the past year or more.
For the 18th c. stuff, I mostly just need to make decisions. I have PLENTY of fabric to make a split rump out of, and I adore making underwear out of "fun" fabrics. I won't make it with feathers, since I have plenty of poly fiberfill hanging around (I did a project that said I needed a pound of fill, so I bought enough for me and Nicole. She never made hers, and I needed faaaaar less than a pound) that I was contemplating taking to the thrift store (I still might, and see if I can find a feather pillow there).
So... many... accessories... I need to finish hemming my neckerchief. And then find the remnant of fabric. I should have enough to make a cap or two.
I'm so torn on the Williamsburg print. I have 6 yards. When M told me she found it, I was at the summer carnival and trying to make decisions on the fly. I could easily do another Italian gown (now with more knowledge!), or I might be able to squeak out a round gown? I could go late 90's? Decisions...
There's always more petticoats to be made. I didn't include them at all.
For the riding habit I want to use the stuff I'd initially thought to do Elizabethan with, but I have dropped that era. I'm not sure where it is though. And of course that means fixing up or redoing my habit shirt too. I'd love to get that done for CoCo. I'm also feeling like I might be learning a lot of new skills with it.
I also bought some blue and green fabric that I have an inkling to do a robe a la turque with, but I also suspect that will be more skills than I currently have. Good learning opportunity. Also not sure I have enough. The blue was a clearance remnant and I didn't have a plan for the green so I may not have bought enough.
I definitely need a new Regency gown for the year. I wore the blue one to all events last year. I'll need to start planning that soon.
18th Century
- Split rump
- finish stays (they need more binding and some futzing around with the tabs)
- Accessories (caps, apron, etc)
- Williamsburg print dress
- sack gown (I think I need to scrap the cotton one but the silk is still a little scary!)
- riding habit
- striped redingote
Regency
- red silk gown
- long stays
- finish the black gown, then sell it
- sell red sari gown
- dye white gown
- new white gown
- Cream and red spencer
- enormous fur muff
Victorian
- NF?
Just now I thought to add:
- Spoon busk corset
- finish the De Gracieuese corset (maybe the same one?)
Edwardian
- Outfit for tea
- WWI nurse uniform
