How does this happen? (facepalm)
Since May 9:
Phew, that's most of it.
My roommate misses the dogs terribly, and the first day was the worst (of course). She had been staying in bed until 11 or noon or even 1 since then, without the critters to take her attention. And I say that's just fine. She seems to enjoy Guido's presence and antics, though he is VERY different from a dog. Now that she's back to work, we are starting to think about maybe adding one to the household, but I expect it will be a VERY long process. We need a critter who fits into our lives as they are, and assuming that I will also be back to work before long. We want to adopt an older pupper, who will be OK with cats and is OK with being left alone for long periods of time.
I'm still working on getting my stuff unpacked. None of my bookshelves or the TV stand apparently made it, so I (finally) sent off the photos I could find of those to my insurance person with a list of potential replacements. The small ones were hard, they are better sized for mass market paperbacks so the shelves aren't too deep, and it seems almost no one makes bookshelves under 11" deep right now! They were also very short, two stacked together were not as tall as I am. The photo I found shows they were slightly shorter than the vintage sewing desk. But I did find some to send along as potential replacements. Bookshelves have gotten very expensive since I bought those (Granted, they are nearly 20 years old). She was going to ask the removal/storage company about the ones I had, if they were destroyed or removed but not delivered, but I think at least two small and one big one were directly affected by the water. Just waiting to hear back on them.
The last couple of days have been very hard for my heart in the wake of George Floyd's murder. I need to take a step back from the endless scrolling of my FB and IG feeds. So, more baking, more knitting, more sewing, all the while sitting with the fact that I don't do enough locally to fight racism. One of my roommates is black, and it makes me SO ANGRY that SO MANY people, including some of her coworkers, think she deserves less-than just because her skin is a different colour. Fuck right off with that bullshit. And its not just the blatant statements, it's the microaggressions. The "jokes" about ghettos (or rez, because indigenous racism is HOT up here), or comments about "you people" absent of a definition, or how "all (defining feature) are (racist assumption)". NO. White and white-passing friends, CHALLENGE YOUR INTERNALIZED RACISM. It's real and deeply rooted and it affects and informs your life in tiny, tiny but impactful ways. I want the Star Trek future. We need to start 200 years ago, but NOW will have to do.
Since May 9:
- Nicole took the dogs, so we are down to a one-pet household
- I purposely did not wish my mother a happy mother's day. Reasons.
- Guido was VERY BAD for a solid weekend (got on tables, chairs, chewed a hole in the bread bag and a piece of bread, visited both neighbours under the fences and needed to be rescued, ate and threw up grass, and licked some eggs my other roommate was preparing for breakfast. Raw ones.)
- Got my IKEA stuff, so spent a couple days building chairs and beds
- My roommate got her IKEA stuff, which was more substantial, and helped her move and build it
- In total, we moved two box springs, a mattress, two headboards, two sets of rails, and two EXTREMELY HEAVY dressers out of the rooms
- In total, we moved a Strandmon chair, two queen bedframes (Hemnes and Malm), two sets of underbed drawers (Malm), one dresser (Malm 6-drawer), and an 83-lb foam mattress upstairs
- I needed two days to recover from the dressers. Fuck they were heavy.
- I went back to work for 4 days to cover my workwife, who had booked the week after the long weekend off
- I turned 40 years old
- My roommates got me a Cameo from Thorgy Thor for my birthday (I need to watch it again, it was amazing)
- My mother did not wish my a happy birthday, either directly or through her husband.
- My other roommate got HER IKEA furniture lol. (She said she felt left out, so she bought herself a dresser)
- Am back off work again. I'm calling myself a housewife.
- Roommate went back to work.
- Hosted my birthday party on Zoom. Since I had planned to do a picnic, I did a virtual picnic instead.
- Since it was my birthday, I pom'd and powdered my hair. I have yet to wash it (don't @ me, I want to do another style before I take it all out)
- Started a jacket, wot needs some tweaks
- Made a rather hilariously bad pants mock up. For a "curvy" pattern, it's not very curvy
- Printed SO MANY PATTERNS from work that I emptied and entire tray of paper. Now I have to cut and tape them all (my hand can only handle 15 pages max)
- Am doing some work for my dance teacher to pay off my classes. Which i have a hard time actually doing because I popped my hip while warming up on the very first day, and I'm currently dancing on either carpet or bare concrete
- Am quarantine baking. Why not? (I made brownies and baklava. Caramel oat bars are on the menu today)
