Life, noodling, and YouTube?
Sep. 28th, 2020 09:41 amRoommates: One person messaged me, and I replied within 5 minutes, and they have not even read it yet. A dude messaged me, but we would prefer a female roommate, and when I looked at his profile he seems to think COVID is a hoax and that Trump is a stand-up kinda guy. He then proceeded to hit on me. So that's a no-go.
Work: I was pretty sure last week that I would not be back in the office this calendar year. When I went in on Friday, there were a few updates - My one coworker who was furloughed with me has been permanently laid off. The site is bringing more people back in mid-October in a rotating schedule, and there's potential for the reception area to be opened mid-November. My workwife would go to reception, and I would be back full-time for coverage and print shop.
That does mean I now have a semi-firm date for back-to-work, so i can start really making use of my time at home. I would love to have more of my things unpacked and/or organized before then. I'm not going to push having the sewing room itself like, having finished painted walls, or flooring, that can be a long-term project. But I would like for the desks to be in place, the boxes unpacked, maybe have my room sorted out and bookshelves up. Stuff like that. It would be so great if we could get a roommate in place.
November of course is NaNoWriMo, and I haven't planned what I'm going to write about yet. i've toyed with taking an old draft and rewriting it, since most of my November novels are basically really detailed outlines, but that was a few minutes while I was cooking the other night. If I do go back to work mid-November, I will have a few days to really crank it out, and I already booked the last week off as I have done for the past few years. I really like having that last week to work on my novel.
I went to another picnic on the weekend and I purposely wore the Victorian wallpaper cotton sacque bc I had no photos of it from Costume College. I pomaded and powdered the front of my hair into a poof so magnificent my newest cap wasn't even visible, and I even managed to hide the shaved side a bit. It was a warm day in the sun, but the wind was very enthusiastic and chilly, so we didn't even make the full 2-hour window I planned for. BUT I did get some photos, which are on Instagram.
I had a BRILLIANT idea for an embroidered pocket, which then got me thinking about a whole kit following B&T's sewalongs, so that might be a winter project. Looking at the sacque photos, and then all the other sewing I've been doing (mini-dress last week, pants mock-ups inspired by
ktlovely) I really need to up my patterning game. The sacque pattern ostensibly fits me, but it's FAR too wide across the back, and the shoulder straps are halfway over the point of my shoulder! I will experiment with mix-and-match pattern sizing, full and small bust or belly or hip adjustments... It honestly might be less work to draft my own block (facepalm)
I've been toying with the idea of doing some YouTube videos. I would definitely do
sewloud's 20 questions. I have an idea for "pomade and powder for curly girls", specifically referencing people who have 2 and 3-levels of curls, and are following silicone-free low-poo or no-poo routines. I suppose my 20-in-20 project would work well as a series, especially the pattern drafting aspects. I would still write the blog posts, since I still prefer reading as an informational medium over video.
