Life! With a side of sewing!

I have been *so* scatterbrained in a way that screams "tell me you have ADHD without telling me you have ADHD". A selection of my FB "friends" would tell me that this happens to everyone and that not everything has to be ADHD but hoooo boy. Y'all I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders. I can remember many long-term important things, like where my bus pass is and doing laundry, but small-scale immediate things are GONE. I have to do stuff immediately or I forget it for hours.
Speaking of forgetting, I put my "wallet" (a little fold from an insurance company meant for storing your car documents) in my pocket, forgot it was there (I was so sure I'd left it on my desk) and it fell out of my pocket on the bus. I've requested their lost and found in case anyone turned it in, have already replaced the bank cards and made a police report, but if they don't have it by now I will have to go and replace... the other stuff. One of them is a card from the federal gov't that their website says they won't replace unless it's been used fraudulently, so that's fun.
Past 2 weeks:
Roomie's mom finally got her surgery date (it was cancelled for the day originally scheduled, and now it is today!! She should be mid-way through it by now).
My local hockey team got into the second round of playoffs, which has been fun to see all the fans in their jerseys and the car flags etc, but they are playing the other local team, from the same province, of whom Roomie J is a fan, so things are a little tense at home haha (in a fun way, I hope).
Decided I really want to make new stays (STILL) and pulled out all of the working/wearable mock-ups of the Augusta stays. IDK what I was thinking when I made them, although I was definitely not the same shape I am now. I find it to be an odd pattern, one of the side back tabs looks like it belongs on the side front, and overall it's really designed for people with "normal" body proportions. I need hip flare IMMEDIATELY below my waist (oh but you know, I'm just so similar to the pool of testers that applied, they have more than enough people and they can't use my skills... OK Barbara). It LOOKS like similar styles in POF5, and if you line up the pieces like an arc-draft, it totally looks right. But I couldn't find a piece of fabric that I wanted to use as a mock-up (complicated by the bins being packed away for floor prep... 2 months ago), and then I was tired so I walked away, bc nothing good happens sewing-wise when you're tired.
This past weekend was my birthday! On Saturday I got the bright idea that I wanted to make myself a new dress, as last year I had made the underdress for the German ensemble that went precisely nowhere after that, and at least one previous birthday I spent the whole day making a regency dress (2019, I think). Clearly this is a trend that I must continue. So I cut out linen for lining another Amalia jacket, because I should have enough silk to make the jacket to go with a petticoat I made last year and then I'll have a cute lil set and it will be great!! Now I have to go cut the silk... which is terrifying.
I also have no idea if it will fit over new stays, or how it ought to fit over my current ones, which I think are also not shaped right (not that I've tried them on in like a year). Ahhhh bodies. Circumferences = "average". Proportions on the other axis = NOT "average". What a journey this has been.
Garden is still unplanted as we had frost warnings late last week, but I need to move the plants outside. The squashes have been SO happy in the sun, and the other plants are all happy too. I should move a few to the front too, just to see how they do.

Date: 2022-05-26 03:55 am (UTC)Your hockey team is killing it this season! I can't be too happy about it, though, because one of your good players is someone who used to be on our team and he did not make a good impression on people in this city. ;p
Sorry to hear about the lost wallet. I hope that it shows up in the lost and found!
I hope that roomie's mom's surgery went smoothly and that she has a quick recovery.
I think that stays are the most difficult thing I have ever tried to fit. There's something about the way the shaping works and the broad front bust and the narrow back that is so weird. I find that I need to make my side-back pieces very swoopy from waist to hip, otherwise I get lower back pain.

Date: 2022-05-27 02:30 pm (UTC)Ugh, its Kane, isn't it lol. I honestly haven't been following hockey super closely these last few years so most of what I know has been filtered through my roommate. He was SO MAD last night when first the one goal was disallowed, and then when McDavid scored to break the tie.
No luck on the wallet front, so I'm off to replace a bunch of docs this week. Can't wait XP
Thanks for the tip on swoopy backs, because that's what I'm finding too! none of my recent corsets have enough room in the back and the pinchy feeling starts in the back right hip (but like inside? that's where an old injury is, anyway) I have a feeling I will only figure this out with a lot more trial and error, my brain struggles with this kind of spatial awareness.

Date: 2022-05-27 04:10 pm (UTC)I think maybe there is a nerve or pressure point there. Probably most patterns are for people who are more long-waisted than us. I often have to shorten patterns between the bust and the waist.
