Roomie's mom made it out of surgery A-OK! It took about 6 hours to complete (apparently the tumour was harder to get to than it looked on the scans) and she is very groggy, but she's doing well! Roomie talked to her yesterday. It's a long road to recovery, she will be kept at the operating hospital until they release her back to her home hospital, and then it's PT and all that fun stuff.
Cut the silk and started sewing it for the jacket. It's such a delight to work with. I also ripped off some strips to make a lil ruffle for the petticoat before I did that, to ensure I had enough. Wish I knew where my pocket hoops were so I could also do the petticoat for the pet-en-l'air outfit I've had on the list since 2018! I want to use a corner of it for the lower part of the jacket front, but not at the expense of a complete petticoat. I also thought I had a weird length of black silk leftover from the hood I made 2 years ago but not sure where it is. Hm just recalled that i used a bunch for lining my trousers. Maybe it's gone. Ah well!
The instructions have a very modernized way of doing a mantua maker's seam though, that I had totally disregarded on my first jacket. Also I really dislike modern 5/8" seams on handsewn items, I can't eyeball it at all. I know I could adjust it but... lazy.
