totchipandaThe tailoring book has arrived! I was very tired when I finally had a chance to look at it, so I haven't given it an in-depth perusal yet. (When I got home yesterday, roomie J and I went out right away, because the power was out, so we picked up our other roomie and then went to Costco. It was 30C/86F, which is REALLY HOT for us and the car was ROASTING, so after we finished dinner finally at like 8pm, I was already ready for bed.)
First impression: I paid $32 not-dollars for this?? It's a softcover, not more than 150 pages, and my concern with that is more that the book won't lay open for easy reference WHILE sewing. There are tons of photos, some of which made me concerned for when it was originally published (2011, but the section on pin-fitting a tissue pattern made it look like the late 80s), and the info really is good. Tons of things I didn't know, or knew but never had a good primer on how to do correctly, like fusing interfacing to fabric (some of that is specific to coat-weight fabrics, I'm sure).
Not much sewing this week. The back of Angelica is done, and I started doing the eyelets on the front. I have discovered that the bone folder I got for paper folding is also really excellent at pressing linen. I have yet to take the pieces downstairs to iron them, and have instead pressed my seams with the folder lol. I put a few lengths of thread into the trimming of the sack. I spent an hour or so knitting, because one of my favourite events is starting on September 1 and I'd like to get one of the current projects off the needles. It's been ongoing for months now, it is time!
Going to see my gramma this weekend. She is 92 and I haven't seen her in three years. I think I am going to come away from that with a heavier heart.
