Nov. 23rd, 2022 09:14 amSaturday morning I pinned up the hems on the trousers and did a try on, and it was good, so it got pressed. And then I thought, how much visible stitching do I want? So I will be stitching the hems by hand, but that is a Couch Project and not a Sewing Room project. They are still awaiting stitching, and I'm not sure if I have any pant hooks around. That's a project for near-future me.
Instead, I sat myself down with Lost Treasures of Egypt on D+ and stitched the Angelica bodice and skirt together (pro-tip, work from the front edge back. My pleats got funky fast when working against them, much neater when going with them) and then hemmed it. Which took FOREVER because I was making itty bitty teeny tiny stitches. I definitely would not be employed in a dressmaker's shop at that rate, thank goodness I'm making this for myself and can take as much time as I want ;)
I did cut the sleeves for my mock-up version. My hope is they are good without any adjustments, and then I can use them as lining for another gown. The fabric is an itty bitty black and white check (the kind for race tracks, not ginghams or anything), whatever goes on top will need a darker fabric/tighter weave so it doesn't show through. Am I daydreaming about a black silk gown? Yes I am.
Holiday job started this week, although not a single person has brought anything in on any of my shifts yet.
NaNoWriMo is a bust this year. I haven't had any brain-power to dedicate to writing, and even though there's still a chance I could catch up, it would be under great discipline and stress, and the resulting RSI would not be worth it. So I'm writing what I can, when I can, and otherwise entertaining myself. George the trans exorcist WILL be given life one day, but not this year. This will be my first "loss" in 18 years, the third overall, out of 21 attempts, so my track record is still good!
One of two nights off this week, and I might need to dedicate it to chores. We need groceries (I did put the car in the garage, so now I'll need to get it out!), and I really ought to cook something so I can have leftovers for lunches. Although next week I am on VACACIONES and will not be needing to provide for myself in the same way :D
Speaking of vacaciones, I am SO READY FOR IT. My work team has been hit by illness again, with two people out, and one of them is the receptionist, and the other is the back up receptionist. So I am covering again, and trying to train the third back up receptionist. Yeah, she needs to be here with me so I can show her stuff, but it cramps my style to be so closely linked with someone lol. And to top it off, I am also getting sick. My roommates both have a cough, that they report they are otherwise 100% fine (talking normally, feeling fine, normal amounts of energy), and I had the sore spot in my throat yesterday. Today it has mellowed, and I haven't coughed yet, but it's likely to be terrible when I do.
Next week I have 2 evening shifts and one weekend day, and the rest is glorious time off for me me me. I can't wait. Those trousers WILL be completed!
