The lasts

Today is a day of lasts. Last walk to the bus stop, last trip there later, last night in the place etc. But tomorrow begins the firsts!

I picked up my keys yesterday, and I still adore the place. It's just so cute. Put my internet box in place, and they had left me a little bag of kitchen stuff, like dish soap and a sink strainer. For a moment I wondered why they included a BBQ lighter and then remembered that the stove is gas! I've never had a gas stove before, I have no idea how to work one! Apparently I will need to be lighting it lol.

I took a half-day to do that, so I got home like 2 hours before I normally would and kept packing. Bedroom clothes are done, my "go bag" is started (it contains a set of sheets and pajamas). M had left me smaller boxes from her unpacking when they did a return trip on Wednesday, so I made good and immediate use of those. From the other day:

Thought I was mostly done the sewing stuff, but there is about another box's worth that could and should be packed up. The main part of this is complete.

Bedroom bookshelves. Need a smaller box for this too. Done.

LEGO. One of them is the Razor Crest, and I am EXTREMELY tempted to photo it on the grass, then break it apart and photo the pile of bricks on the grass. Season 1 vs Season 2 lol -- not done yet. I have one more smaller box that would work for this, I just need to decide if I want to try containing each piece or just toss it all in and have a building party later.

Kitchen. Smaller boxes again. I packed up as many non-breakables as I could. The rest need padding, or will still be used over the next few days. Partially complete. I layered a couple towels and some of the non-essentials into a small box and took it with me, so the kitchen is partially unpacked already (if one can say that about literally four mugs and a baking dish). I have now emptied all of the cabinets onto the counter in prep for packing those too, but I have run out of boxes.

Bathroom. Sames. Stuff I need and will pack up probably Friday night or Saturday morning. I shaved my head and took a quick shower last night, so there is nothing remaining besides a toothbrush that needs to be packed.

Take apart the bed frame. Considering sleeping on the floor just so I can have this done before my helpers arrive. Obviously not done yet.

Garage. Have barely looked in here. I think most of my stuff is contained, at least. The rest is my friend's stuff that she didn't take when she moved 3 years ago. I did look in finally, and it's not quite as bad as I thought it was. there's just a lot that's not mine, and just enough of mine spread throughout the space to loom in my mind.

In the future, I will need to get some shelving for the pantry, and I am low-key looking for a table that is VERY SMOL. I measured the space of the "dining" area at nearly 8 feet long, but it really doesn't feel that big. Plus there's a radiator on that wall.

My site manager was the one who walked me through the place, and she said that they do not care one whit about how one chooses to decorate. Even painting is fine, provided it gets returned to the previous colour when I leave (they will even supply the paint for that). She said the building is 73 years old, it's plaster walls and probably an inch and a half of paint. Just keep those things in mind when choosing options.

She also said that normally they would not allow a deferral of the pet fee, but she is doing it for me. I promise I will be back next Friday and I will not bring the kittens in until I do. That will also give me time to figure out where to put the cat box, because there is not a lot of room for it anywhere.

The day is finally here and I am nervocited for it. Let's do the damn thing! Oh! And M is meeting me at the house tonight, we plan to load up the car to take some things over, run to IKEA for her (she wants a thing that has gone to now or never status), and then unload so she can see the place.

Nervocited is an excellently descriptive portmanteau! Best of luck that everything goes as smoothly as possible.

The lighter for the gas stove made me chuckle a bit - the gas oven in my grandparents' house needed to be lit, they always kept matches next to it, and I was TERRIFIED of it as a kid. xD (That thing was a beast from the early 50s though, and it was in that house until we sold it after they were both gone, in 2021. Still working! Imagine using a stove for almost 70 years...) These days I haven't seen any stoves that don't have an electric ignition to light the gas, but I'm not sure how usual that is outside of our region. I always liked gas better because then you can still use the stove if the electricity's out! :D

Nervocited is the perfect word to describe feelings on these sorts of occasions. Good luck with the new place!
