Y'all. I have learned some very important things about myself this past holiday weekend.
Friday, we got off work early and I enjoyed a couple hours at home, napping with the kittens, until I went to the mall for my holiday job. Busy evening, probably could have used one more person, but what can you do. But Saturday... Saturday. I went in for my 11:30 shift (late, because its hard to get going sometimes) already thinking that the 1:30 person wasn't going to show, and planning how I would stay to cover bc otherwise the closer was going to be alone for an hour and a half. And WOULDNT YOU KNOW IT the 1:30 person called in. Boss let us know shortly after 1:30 itself because I remember seeing the time and wondering if she was going to waltz in.
Because she was stuck in the 3-hours-south city. Where the weather was bad.
Like you couldn't have figured that out 3 hours ago?
But EVEN IF boss believed her, the rest of us didn't. This chick showed up for ONE of her FOUR shifts and called out for the rest. One of them she said she forgot about a friend's birthday party but would come if no one covered, and it wasn't covered and she didn't go. One person was really sure she saw her at another mall the day before. We all KNEW that she wasn't coming.
Thankfully one person saw boss's callout for anyone to come, for whatever time they could manage! And the other closer came in earlier. And I did stay. Apparently the two openers were steady right from the start, we had a lull between 1:30 and 2, and then it was balls to the wall busy until 8pm. We had to turn people away starting at 7pm because we just had so much backlog and we weren't holding overnight (being the 23rd, there was a risk people would not show up on the 24th to pick up, for what reason I cannot imagine but it has happened!)
I was wrecked. My feet and back were so sore from standing on tile-over-concrete for 6 hours straight. I didn't eat enough to match that output, which I only realized the next day. And then I had to go back for 9? I had regrets.
Sunday was mostly fine, surprisingly quiet until 3:20 ish when one person had left and another was on break, and all of a sudden everyone showed up wanting things wrapped. We weren't letting people leave, they had to stay put and we would knock it out fast, but that was before, when there were five people on the floor. I messaged the breaker to come back and then had a full on panic attack that manifested as being very internally uncharitable towards the ESL guests using the self-wrap station. I knew immediately that I wasn't upset about them specifically, it was something else.
I determined that when I get overwhelmed, like I was feeling in that moment, my brain interprets ALL noise as important and can't filter it. So between the couple playing a loud video on their phone, the people in line being written up, the general noise of the mall and the overhead music, and this family talking to each other in their non-English language, it picked that conversation as Most Important and got mad that it wasn't making sense.
Once we cleared the room, I took a donut some of the early customers had dropped off and went to the VERY QUIET back break area.
The rest of Sunday was spent eagerly awaiting 5pm when we closed. I had ordered cat litter for pick up and they closed at 6 so I had a short window to get it, and then they had one staffed till for the 8-10 people in line (i was #4 but more people queued behind me) but did get a second person going. I muted the car radio during a commercial break and didn't turn it back on. Sat in the car for a moment because I was still sore and all from the day before and what little work i did do while standing that day was still too much.
Small blessing: my friend decided not to go to her grandmother's that day, so I did not need to check in on her cat. I had a whole odyssey finding her keys, but am very glad they are found and I did not need them.
Monday was of course THE DAY. I stayed home until nearly 3, working on a bralette (needs more testing, I yolo'd into the first one and um. It's not working hahaha.) Went to my aunt's for a very quiet and chill dinner. Stopped at the roomies' place on the way home, where I watched the second half of the new hunger games movie with them and we exchanged gifts. And then home, where I stayed until this morning, except for an hour long trip to the grocery store on Tuesday.
The other fun thing I have been dealing with is a second period -_- I had the normal 4 day break from end of period to ovulation, had a lil fleshy bit come out, no big deal (well I think it is, but it's at least normal for me), but oh boy. Usually I have ONE daily BLECH of bloody discharge and the next 23 hours are various iterations of brownish, but this has been now NINE DAYS of blood, sometimes with a watery texture and sometimes more gooey, a few clots here and there. Bad enough that I have been using the disc for the past week, which isn't really doing it's job very well because I'm in the toilet every 45 mins to 2 hours cleaning up -_- I need to write this down and bring it to my doc, and also tell him I DONT CARE IF ITS NORMAL I DONT LIKE IT. IM BRINGING THIS TO YOU BECAUSE IT CAUSES ME DISTRESS AND NO IM NOT BEING DRAMATIC ABOUT IT, IVE BEEN TRACKING IT FOR AWHILE NOW AND NOW ID LIKE SOMETHING DONE THANKS.
Spent the entire break + 1 days either working or recovering from working, so I did practically nothing except read a sweet fanfic and play video games. That's it. I need it so bad.
