What is a super cold day...

...without a "I wish I was at home DOING these things instead of being at work and also have I mentioned that it's really f'n cold?!" post?
By super cold I mean it was -30C this morning. At that point the distinction between systems is meaningless; it's just really f'n cold!
Now that my Scout dress is approaching completion it's time to think about other projects (since thinking is all I can do at work).
Converting t-shirts into things I will wear
Stupid "unisex" t-shirts with their too-high necks and too-long everything. I have a couple pulled aside for the first experiments and have just not gotten around to it yet. I think, from an earlier experiment, I'll be able to cut them down a few inches and be able to use the hem area for neck bands/potential shoulder strap bands. I was lamenting my lack of camisoles this morning, and it's one of those things I just need to DO. I have so many t-shirts that I do not wear because of the ill fit.
Tonight I plan to trace off the patterns from the library book, particularly the knit shirt pattern, and those will be included in some of the experiments.
Trousers
I am tired of these modern stretchy ones that are already falling apart. They're too big at the waist and too small in the thigh/calf so they fall down a lot. The hem has come out completely on one leg. And the pockets gap bc of my tummy. Gotta get back on the trouser-makin' train! One thing I will need for this is closures, which is what is keeping me from wearing my other three (!!) pairs (ok one of them is a pair of shorts, but they are super cute and while not work-appropriate they'd be nice for summer). I plan to do a Wawak order this weekend and will get some along with interfacing.
Adjacent to this is figuring out the fit. I have different measurements through waist and hip and most companies are like "just grade them out". That doesn't work for the way those measurements are distributed, I end up with huge amounts of fabric in places I don't need it (this is partly my issue with bodices too) and the fit is never just right. Experimentation required.
Work tops
Honestly I am totally fine with wearing the same pair of pants for two weeks straight (within reason), but tops need to happen. I have four sweaters that I am rotating right now, and it's not enough. Partly I would like to go thrifting and find some nice pieces, but I'd also like to add to the non-sweater-y pieces so I can wear layers over them. This is another place where I struggle with fit, getting the shoulders not too wide but also having room for boobs and belly.
I would also like to knit more sweaters, but you know what a challenge that can be ATM hahaha.
Overall style
Ongoing, as usual.
