Inspired by
danabren, I made a banyan this weekend lol.
It was a VERY FUN rabbit hole to go down and I had a fabric picked out in my mind, so I went for it. It took me awhile to find it, being in a box I did not expect it to be in, and I did find another box of fabric that I'd forgotten about so that was good. I didn't know how long it was, and it ended up being almost 6 yards. Alas, it was unwashed, but if that was the only barrier to starting, I wasn't gonna let it stop me. Snip snip rip, bitch!
Lining was a medium weight cream linen that required extensive pressing first (it had been something like 11 meters when I got it, bunged the whole thing in the wash, could not be arsed to deal with it when it came out. This would have been like... 5 or more years ago. At least it was washed). Lots of help from Calcifer, naturally, especially with laying it out on the floor. Pro tip, be more precise in cutting than I was, and a larger surface to baste layers together is a good idea if you have access to one.
Long story short, I found the fabric at 10:30 AM Saturday, began cutting and ironing and whatnot almost immediately, and at 9:01 PM Sunday I had a finished and entirely hand-sewn robe. I took MANY breaks, naps on both days, silly games, dinners, scooping the cat box. My fingers are a little sore bc we're not used to such activities these days, but I regret nothing! I watched Sandman season 2 pt 1 (was delighted to find Jack Gleeson aka King Joffery in a brief role as Puck), some old faves, K-Pop Demon Hunters (very fun, bangin' soundtrack particularly if you like k-pop) (also OBVIOUSLY the ridiculous blue tiger is my fave), and some true crime documentaries. Very fun weekend, A++.
Now eyeing that manteau de lit. That would also be fun, and I have 2 yards of the cotton left. One of the fabrics that had been "missing" was my precious bird-embroidered silk picked up 7 years ago for a pet-en-l'air so...
Really need to make some trousers though lol.
