My pattern cutting party turned into a shorter FABRIC cutting party, who even am i?? I did the FBAs on the two Friday patterns (originally I was going to just cut the front piece wider, but I'm glad I did the FBA because it means the neckline is still intact) and removed height in the upper chest (tricksy on the Davenport with it's raglan line on the front, easy with yoked backs). I managed to squeeze a short-sleeved Patina blouse out of a remnant that I got from my friend back in May (with the collar facing pieces cut on the cross grain), and then I was going to do the Davenport from the 9m of green ditsy floral I had set aside for Honeybourne, and then said NO. I thought that this length of red and pink cotton I was gifted many years ago would be perfect, and so I washed and dried that.
It's 56" wide, so I would have to fold the edges into the centers to get the best use of a fabric, plus by adding to the front width of the top I wanted to add to the width of the skirt too. The front and back skirts are the same, but they would JUST fit on the double-folded width without any extra. I thought, that's ok, let's start pinning this out and see what happens.
Panels ripped, drawstring laid on the ripped edge, sleeve, back yoke, ruffles, casings, back, pocket back, ok let's get the skirt sorted out oh no I don't have enough left to cut these on grain WITH the front, front inset and pocket lining. I need like... half a yard more. GDI. So I backed it up a few pieces, and if I cut the skirt and pocket back on the cross grain, I can just get the front on there, and I might be able to get one set of insets too. I think it wouldn't look awful with a peek of colour-blocking there and I have some pink cotton that doesn't really match any of the colours in the fabric BUT it's in the same family in tone, so it works. One set of insets, the pocket lining, and front neck facing will need to be a different fabric.
Then my phone died and lunch was on the table, so off I went, and I spent the rest of the day playing games and napping.
I should have gone to huff the kittens, but I did not :(
