I made a grave (?) error in cutting out the redingote. I forgot to make a pattern for the lapel facing, the part that everybody sees. (Insert image of The Scream here)

I trawled fashion plate images of redingotes for two reasons. One was to get ideas for headwear (almost exclusively hats, but a few fluffy caps, and since i am not bringing any true hats with me to coco, fluffy cap it is!), the other to see what my options might be. So:

A: contrast lapel facing. Matched cuffs. Downside: most had contrast collars too, and no capes
B: cut the lapel off the bodice and replace it with a contrast piece underneath so that the fashion fsbric is on top.
C: do some weird funky thing by moving tje linen part of the lapel underneath (still need to cover it. Can cover the join with some scraps)
D: piece the shit out of my scraps (theres very little left)
E: cut 10" off each skirt panel and piece that for facings. I guess itd be more like 9.5", to account for needing to hem.

Version 3 is pretty close to as perfect as i can expect with imperfect patterning. In my "research" i started suspecting a lot of redingotes are constructed like dresses snd not coats, but i dont have a good dress pattern atm

So i got into stays and bum and skirt and tried on version 1/2 again. It was made with the base of my gowns and just wasnt quite right. Then i tried on tje riding habit again and i just prefer that fit. So i adjusted the draft to be close to the riding habit, following the LACMA pattern more as guidelines, and made a new mockup. Im rwally happy with it. Needs a couple small adjustments but its much better thsn my first one. and the collar fits into it now.

I also drafted up the collar fall and capes. I dont know if i will have enough fabric for the capes but they are done.

I cobbled together a mockup for the redingote today. It started life with the pattern i made for the white dress (previously RH heavily altered to a Janet Arnold pattern) mixed a little bit with JP Ryan's riding habit. The photo is on Instagram (same username). Im kinda impressed? It fits me better than it does Josephine, but the fact that it fits at all is kind of a miracle lol. I really dont know what im doing so much when i try to modify patterns. Later i drew up the collar and put it on too. It needs some tweaks still. On the LACMA patter the collar meets the lapel but on mine there is a gap. Do i extend the collar or tighten up the lapel?

I put a sleeve on it too. Its a mostly unaltered sleeve the riding habit, i just shortened the head and it would need the cuff narrowed. Who needs to lift their arms pfffft. (maybe me...)

My peach cobbler is delicious too, if ever so slghtly too sweet (after i reduced thw sugar by almost half!)
