Sleeeeeeves

My life is All About Sleeves.

I pulled the sleeves apart and added in a narrow panel to see how much extra width I needed, and also how much extra length I needed to make up for the longer strap. I am THIS CLOSE to abandoning the whole thing, for Reasons. The sleeves, the longer strap, I cut the neckline but that made the strap very narrow on one end and wide on the other, it laces closed even without stays, etc? It probably just needs to sit in the naughty pile for awhile while I rework the pattern.

Pre-gown, I was still... not enthusiastic, but determined. Looking at the jacket pattern, the sleeve is less squared off than I may have expected to see, and at least the top bit looked like my BFF sleeve, the riding habit jacket. And I knooooowwww I need to make better sleeves, but I love it, and so I traced it out. And then cut it out. And then pinned it in to see how it would work. Jury's out, because I didn't spend too long on it. The English gown called...

Since that one is largely based on the Italian gown in AD's guide, and THAT sleeve looked a lot like my modified BFF sleeve, but I knew it would have some issues because I did that twice in 2018 and had a bunch of 'em, I still went ahead and cut it out in both fabric and light linen lining, which I foolishly cut too short. I took my time though, and made sure to both fit them... if not well, at least well enough. I can reach foward (but not overhead) and bend my arm to touch my face. I was pretty happy with that, marked my changes, and stitched away.

So now the gown and petticoat is DONE, and it's on to millinery. I had a scrap of voile wide enough for the cuffs, and long enough to get both cuffs and a full tucker out of it. I get to practice my rolled hems! One cuff went decently fast, and while it looked really narrow as I worked on it, once it was all done and on the tape and pinned into place, its RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE. Now to make a million more miles.

So, anyone got any sleeve fitting tips? DO i need to scrap my sleeve pattern and start all over again?
