In the last few months, I've been revisiting my decades-old love for the American versions of Robotech. I think it started when I found the RPG books somewhere in my boxes, then purchased a lot of the books I didn't have (though now I have three copies of the Zentraedi supplement...), and it culminated finally when I bought the latest sourcebook, for the Shadow Chronicles. My brother had lent me the DVD some time ago (before I moved in the summer), which I just found and watched today.
It was OK... I don't think it was terribly well-written, and the animation was an odd mix of (what looks like) traditional cell animation, and CG. Really reminded me of Babylon 5, actually. But yeah, it was OK. Didn't overly enjoy it, which is kind of a shame. The animation really put me off.
But by going back into these books and a tiny amount of source, (and knowing that my best friend and I want to do Bridge Bunnies cosplay for May) it made me think about all the old characters I had made up when I was in high school. I changed some of the details about them, and I like them tons and tons better now :) I've been toying with the thought of writing new stories about them. While I was on vacation at the beginning of the month, I spent HOURS making a spreadsheet to C&P for the characters I wanted to use, but wound up reformatting my computer a week or so later. I thought I'd saved the file, but I hadn't, so it's gone :( Le sigh.
So I've been spending my evening trying to simplify the process with drop down menus and the like, but holy crap, it's redonk hard. I don't have Excel on this computer, which I was having a little more luck before the wipe. With OpenOffice Calc, man, I just don't get it. I'll probably wind up making a bunch of blanks, and just C&P whatever one I need, but wow... it's a daunting prospect.
Add into this some ideas I've been throwing about in my head for some other fanfic, and the projects I need to finish, my head is a busy place :)
