May. 14th, 2024 01:05 pmTried the stays on last night, after dinner so I have a pretty good idea how they'd fit if I were to put them on in the morning. I'm happy with the fit right now, though of course I can't know fully until I wear them for longer than 10 mins. This time I laced them up with cord which was tricksy bc it's exactly 3 yards and while that's long enough once laced, it's a squeeze to get it in all the holes while also being loose enough to twist it around my body. I put a safety pin in the spot the eyelet will go and tied it off there which worked well. I tried my cotton Amalia jacket on over top to make sure everything was in place as it should be, and it was. Success!
Spent last night just laying around, watching Bridgerton in prep for season 3 (part 1, grr) coming out on Thursday and playing video games (especially prior to trying on the stays). I'll work on the lining tonight perhaps, or move on since they're 100% wearable as they are. I was kind of emotionally drained too, from my gramma snarking at me the night before and conversations with my boss* and moving into my own office! I have humongous windows and the peace I need to actually get shit done without people interrupting me or just being loud in my vicinity.

Hoping to be a little more ambitious, sewing-wise, in the next few evenings. I have so many plans and ideas, and all I really need to do is commit. I said I would work on a Deer & Doe Bruyere shirt with a friend, and of course I am second guessing everything about it. What fabric do I use? What if I ruin it forever?? I pulled out some poly-blend white and blue plaid and a black poplin, then said I would use the poplin, but I know for a fact that it wasn't pre-washed and what if it shrinks when it gets washed?? I hate waiting for things to be pre-washed. (And then if I do pre-wash, do I throw it in with other fabrics, and do I HAVE to do like colours??) (Why yes, I AM overthinking this, severely.) I KNOW everything will be fine; I think the poplin has a little stretch which should keep it from shrinking significantly.
Maybe I need to work on something else first... but also what. SIGH sometimes the worst part of sewing is deciding where to begin.
