On Friday I decided YES I want a Cricut so I went back into FB Marketplace and messaged one person I had been eyeing. Yes, its available, he said, but message me this afternoon, I have a few people interested. Ok sure, no problem. Bookmarked a couple others in the same price range, and then went to the Michaels website to see what they had on offer. Y'all, the Cricuts were on sale. They NEVER go on sale. The guy I had messaged had a lightly used Joy for $120, but I could get a new one for $140. I could get a bigger one for $20 more! So, I bought the bigger one and a couple rolls of vinyl. Once I got home, I sat under the kittens for a bit before heading out to pick it up! Eeee new toy!

But it was already kind of late when I got home, if 7:30pm can be considered late, and I hadn't eaten dinner yet so I just unboxed it and left it on the table for the moment while I cooked and ate.

At some point, probably Thursday evening, I'd tried on the skirt again and found that the sewing machine table was a nice height for marking the skirt at hip level. As the books say, all difference in height is above the hip (aka the booty) so by marking this line, you measure off the skirt at the same length below it. Done! I started stitching it too, but that took more time than I thought since I apparently love hand work to stitch on both a bias binding and down by hand. Ah well, more time to be sat under the kittens.

Saturday afternoon, after the skirt was done, I had a pressing party by getting out the big board (oooh aaah) and pressed the skirt, then ironed all of the washed fabrics. Who am I?! Then, tired and hot, I started to work on the Mitchell trousers I'd cut out the week before. Now I could properly do the bits and bobs on the back pieces, which got to a "together" state before I paused. The welts aren't super pretty, since I used interfacing that was MUCH too heavy for the fashion fabric (100% polyester, as expected, and super duper shreddy) (i even got out the Janome to do a zigzag edge stitch bc the only dark colours I could find for the serger were navy), but they were EVEN, which is more than I can say for my last attempt at them.

Saturday evening saw the Elsie blouse being cut out and the Cricut used for my neighbour's project. Alas, the computer went to sleep in the middle of a cut and it wouldn't reconnect to pick up where it left off, so it started over. Unfortunately that made the blade cut all the way through and of COURSE it was on a complicated logo that couldn't be salvaged. So I need more of that colour. I discovered that I don't need to arrange duplicated items on a sheet, if I just copy out however many I want, it will arrange them automatically (not necessarily what I want, all of the time). Blessing in disguise, because one of the logos turned out bigger than the other so I'll need to adjust that. The bibs look SUPER cute with their logos arranged hehehe.

Sunday... morning is a bit of a blur. I think I started with Elsie, thread-marking the important lines, and then probably finished the trousers to the "needs hemming and buttons" stage. By then it was lunch time and I was HON GA REE. Nommed, sat under a kitten again while hand-basting Elsie to try it on, and then to my aunt's for turkey dinner. Happy (late) Thanksgiving, Canadians! Once home, I was determined to have Elsie for the photos I wanted (needed) to take the next day, but in pulling off the needle plate to check that the needle I broke wasn't jammed inside, I neglected to put it back properly and it was refusing to stitch. It was nearly 10 by then and I finally accepted that it wasn't going to happen, walk away now.

Monday morning, I discovered where I had gone wrong with the machine. Whoops. Started to get dressed, talked to the neighbour in my historical underwear, finished dressing and then tromped to the nearby park for photos. Y'all, wait till you see them hehehehe. The clicker took 3 photos and died, so I relied on selfie mode and a timer delay. Stitched a bit more on Elsie but the urgency had passed so I wasn't pushing very hard and didn't get a whole lot done. Napped. Ended up watching TV and playing games for most of the afternoon and evening. Even though my nap was late and I knew I probably wouldn't sleep, I did not read my book as I KNOW it would have kept me awake far longer than I needed to be. I crashed not long after midnight.

Ta-DAAAA! My weekend in a very dense nutshell. Pattern is expected out soon, and I will take more photos once i have the blouse finished. Plus get the striped skirt started. Since I'm not focused on nanowrimo this year (boo hiss) maybe I will focus on sewing instead.
