Aug. 2nd, 2008 01:56 pmI am SO PLEASED with the results that I have to share :D I'm working on the craft foam armor for my commission and I just played with the heating of the foam and rolling it over the hamster ball to shape it, and it came out SO PERFECTLY I could dance with joy :D I have to wait for the glue to dry a little more before trying to attempt the entire sleeve, but the little piece I did do was absolutely marvelous :D
While I was sick last week, I spent a lot of time reading. I started re-reading all the old Pern novels, starting with Dragonsinger, Dragonsong, Dragonflight, and then bits and pieces of various other books. I remember my dad first handing me Dragonflight when I was 12 and how difficult I found it to read at the time, but by the next year, I was drinking them up like water. I've read the entire series (minus the newer books by her son) at least 3 times each, once in chronological order. I had to pull out the People of Pern book I bought at Powell's on my first Portland trip, and I just purchased the Dragonlover's guide to Pern on ebay (and I was really torn between a soft-cover second edition with the updated dolphin information or a first-printing hardcover without it). The series was such a cornerstone of my sci-fi reading habits as a young teen, and I still enjoy most of them even 16 years later. (Except for Skies of Pern. That one made me super-sad) I wish I still had some of the information and stories that I wrote for the PbEm RPG I joined. It took me three days to remember my character's name, and I remember dancing about the house when I got the acceptance email telling me the name of the green dragon that I would Impress at a near-future date XD (Don't remember her name though. Epic sad-face.) Sadly, that was right around the time that my interest in anime took a much stronger hold on me and I fell out of the RP after like 3 posts. I miss those days. [/waxing nostalgic]
Anyway, I've been really enjoying re-reading them, and I do kinda wish I had a way to DragonCon at the end of the month to tell Ms McCaffrey so in person.
