My SAD has been kicking in right on time. I've been going through a downturn of energy and my eating habits are going out the window, and my insomnia has gotten worse (staying awake way too late, not sleeping well, tired mid-day but unable to rest when I close my eyes). I think I could handle all this if not for the side-helping of brain weasels which are only just starting to come out of their hibernation, who will use this low mood cycle as an opportunity to wax rhapsodic on Why No One Actually Likes You And Is Just Prentending. Fuck you, brain weasels. Go away.

This evening was quite disappointing. In descending order of disappointedness:

  • I was let go from my 2nd job, putting me back on the hunt to be able to meet my financial obligations. (What can you do, I worked retail for a really long time, I know how it goes)
  • My first truly shady character came into the store, asking me to help her or do her a favour, but would not tell me what the favour was or what would actually help her.
  • Residential streets are pretty much one-way only (depending on who started up/down the street first, and the ability to pull off to the side), and it's really bad in the older neighbourhoods, like where the dance studio I no longer work at is. Someone pulled into a spot that wasn't big enough for them so that their back end was actually in the driving lane, and while they tried to pull in enough for me to pass, I had to drive over the centre hump of ice and risk hitting him or the car parked on the other side of the road. Thankfully no scrapes (but I really didn't appreciate him yelling or honking at me as I passed)
  • My free copy of my novel from Blurb was shipped in early February, and I received a notice last Thursday (the 12th). When I went to pick it up Friday (the 13th), it wasn't there. Probably tomorrow, they said. I meant to go back yesterday but forgot. So I went today, only to discover that it hadn't been left there since Thursday, and upon closer inspection of the slip, it was attempted delivery on the PREVIOUS Thursday, the 5th. The slip says it will be held for days before being returned, and when I went on the 13th it was already too late. The tracking information says that it was re-picked up on the 17th. I think the shittiest thing is that the place where it was left is shady as fuck, and they have no formal tracking system of items left there. They never offered to see if it was actually there, but if their book (hand written) said it wasn't there, then it wasn't there. I couldn't rebook the delivery because it's apparently on its way back to California, but I will call them tomorrow and find out what my options are. If they won't redeliver (for $5.25 US) or either UPS or Blurb wants to charge me a second shipping fee, they can keep the damn book. It was such a headache to set up and now I'm sorry I wasted my time on it.

In good news, I decided to pick up a cheese pizza since the two stores were neighbours. I have quesadillas and all, but after that series of disappointments, pizza seemed like the way to go. Then I had a hot shower, which was glorious.

T-8 days until the Regency ball. I have to put buttons on my friend's dress and hopefully get a reticule or two done, and figure out what to do with my hair. Phew.
