New Year Goals

Now that the busyness of NaNoWriMo and the holidays are over, I'm trying to find myself a new normal. I dislike setting resolutions for the new year because soooo much cultural messaging is ingrained to fix what's "wrong" about ourselves. While a part of me was disconnected for my own good, as decided by me, now I'm trying to reclaim some corners of the world that used to bring me joy.
My goals for 2019:
I shouldn't say I'm not planning to travel anywhere this year. I wanted to stay closer to home. I was chatting with my aunt on Boxing Day and she invited me out to her place in southwest Saskatchewan. She has my great-grandmother's 1912 treadle machine, so we are planning on sewing and gabbing and going to a fabric store that caters to Mennonite and Hutterite colonies (can you say "printed cottons"? My aunt specifically mentioned it in light of my historical sewing :D). I'm REALLY excited about that. I haven't seen her or her husband since the year after my grampa died.
And all of this is going to be dependant on how I feel. If it's not bringing me joy or otherwise making me feel bad, it's not gonna get done.
My goals for 2019:
- Continue working on my mental health (I'm currently considering going back to a counselor)
- Read more books
- Get my place tidied up. I see it as signs of anxiety everywhere. I joined the Apartment Therapy January Cure, so far so good? It's only been 4 days though
- Write more. I want to post more on my blog, possibly share another one I started, maybe work on some fiction writing
- Spinning: I took a spinning class just after Thanksgiving, but the morning of the class I woke up HELLA dizzy. Turned out I had vertigo. I only went to the second class, and while my head is SO MUCH BETTER after chiropractic, watching something go 'round and 'round in circles is not good for not feeling dizzy lol, But I'll never get better at it if I don't do it, so it's only The Plan.
- Knitting: I've set my project goal for 12 for the year. I'm currently working on a sweater, some socks, some old WIPs, and I have to start my BFF's wedding shawl soon.
- Sewing: I'm not planning to travel anywhere this year, so I'm going to try and focus on things that make me happy. I want to get back to my "roots" in later Victorian era. I already proposed it to my CoCo crew and they were on board, so that's a go and I'm really excited about it :3 On the flip side, no deadlines means it will be more difficult for me to commit to a project and finish it, so I want to work on that too
