VACACIONES
Aug. 26th, 2024 10:19 amVacations are never long enough! I could use another week, last week felt like I was trying to do Too Much (tm).
Saturday: started rearranging my living room. I like where I put the sewing desk, even though it makes plugging in an electric machine rather tricksy. Dad and Aunt stopped by for a short visit, everything was all over the place because I had moved the desk like 20 mins earlier lol.
Sunday: tidied a bit, mostly cross-stitched.
Monday: spent a lot of the day in "waiting" mode even though my therapy appointment, which I could take from my couch, was at 2pm. Spicy brains, amirite?? It was a good session.
Tuesday: Doctor appointment. That went well too, I think, we chatted a bit and he's referring me to gynecology for the fibroid issues (I am bleeding like 3 weeks out of everything month; not constantly but far more days than not when I am wiping blood or ruining my underwear at least once). I realized a couple days later that both that and my period are reaching a point where it's impacting my life because I don't want to be too far from a bathroom in case I have an emergency and need to find one 5 minutes ago. The referral is required in my province, and I think he said they will call me. Wait times are awful ATM bc gov't wants to privatize but... it's started at least.
Sibling and I were going to see a movie, but my budget was too tight and I refused to let them cover me when they have been unemployed for several months. We'll go another day, probably this week.
Wednesday and Thursday were home days, where I mostly cross-stitched, knit a little bit, even sewed! I finished up the elastic bits on two dresses and put some buttons where they belonged. Sewed the mock-up for the Bernhardt stays (mostly good, couple small changes), attempted to draft a divided skirt but I messed up the directions (also not going to work for what I thought, because the crotch is nearly at my knees). I did not count the actually finished projects towards my Whole 30 just because the items have been worn already, with safety pins lol.
Friday I puttered around the house for a bit, making sure the cats were prepped for the weekend and taking my bins out to the car and showering, before making the 3 hour drive to where a medieval fair was being hosted, and I was helping my friends at their booth. First day was decent but late (open 4-9pm; I arrived around 5:30), second day was BANANAS busy, partially due to the strong gusty winds that prevented the outdoor displays from happening, and yesterday was busy but not AS busy. I got home just after 9pm and pretty much went to bed immediately.'
Not that it helped much, I still woke up at 2:45 and couldn't get back to sleep. I am SO GD TIRED TODAY.
Fair was fun! I ended up not dressing up and that was probably a wise decision as I was running around so much that at one point I had sweat dripping into my eyes. My friend made some room for my costumes, and I was selling them at ridiculously low prices. Almost everything I put out sold, and I came home with a wad of cash in my pocket. The only thing I bought for myself was a pretty yarn bowl. But now I'm better prepared for the next event bc I know what it's going to be like lol.
Friend said she wanted to hire me full time for her business. I'm not sure that's a great idea, but while I was not-sleeping this morning, I was thinking about possibly doing some contract/freelance/piecework stuff for her since she lost her business partner earlier this year. My thought is then I could set my own limits on what I can do and when.
A few people also asked on the weekend if I did custom work. I think some of them may have had very unrealistic expectations of what I'd charge based on what I was selling things for this weekend but... I want to have that structure in place in case anyone does ask me. A dress I made for me 8 years ago might fit you and sure I didn't even cover my fabric costs, but if I'm making the piece for you, get your pennies together.
Tonight I will be hard core chilling, probably stitching, and giving absolutely no thoughts to anything else whatsoever. I think I had more I wanted to say here but I started this post hours ago and as I said, GD TIRED which means most brain cells are being funneled into keeping my work thoughts straight for 5 minutes. Might be a reading evening since I have another ETA hold come in at the library (I forgot that part yesterday lol).

When I had time to sew for others -- Found that them buying the fabrics and notions and then just charging them for sewing labor often worked best because they would buy themselves the fancy buttons, etc. instead of questioning the $cost/button if I bought all the things. And made it clear that they were paying me for the time I worked instead of a garment (that they could get cheaper on Amazon -rolls eyes- ).
