On Saturday I asked my dad to pick me up to go to my aunt's birthday party. It is a small detour for him, and when I saw the snow halfway up my tires, I knew it was a great decision. He was picking up my other aunt, and she's been good about pushing him not to stay overly long, so I was home at 630. It was nice to spend the afternoon with the group, nomming on yummy food and knitting without help from the kittens.
IDK when I started this, but i ripped off a length of rayon to make a blouse from, ironed it (it's been in storage for more than 10 years at this point, she was WRINKLY yo) and then cut the fabric. Must have been Saturday night bc I marked all the darts and pinned them together (SO CAREFULLY, for once), and then pinned the seams to try it on quickly. I think it'll work! But I wasn't reading the instructions #yolo or watching the accompanying video, so I probably made it worse for myself by doing that lolsob. Rayon is so WIBBLY.
I cut out interfacing for the facing and collar and even ironed it on, but that was an exercise in patience bc apparently that interfacing needs the iron to be hotter than the surface of the sun to bond it to rayon. Eesh. And that's how I discovered that everything STRETCHED like SO MUCH. HOW?! I did not include the facings or collar in the pin test, why is it so much longer than everything else!
Sunday I was supposed to see my friend but we agreed that the roads were likely not going to be much improved (the main roads were probably fine, but residentials like hers and mine would have sucked) and also her husband broke a shovel trying to clear their sidewalk. I kept my butt home and sewed the blouse, wherein I rediscovered that rayon is so wibbly. It has the most gorgeous drape and feels so nice, but omg. Shifty AF. I was not careful in my stitching and still had to trim one of the facings down a second time on one side only to make it fit. In retrospect, I should have made the blouse without a collar to test the fit. I've mostly got it the way it should be, but my center points at front and back are not playing nicely. Since it was all broken up by a long nap and some house chores, I opted not to fuss too much with it at the end of the day. Also I didn't want to fuss with a zipper, and I hadn't included enough fabric to do the sleeves when I ripped off the first length. So there's that lol.
Charm Honor Roll Top, size 8 D/DD at shoulders and swooped out to 12 at the waist/hem, shortened 1", with size 2 placement of front dart and bust apex.
Realized this morning that I'll need spring clothing very soon, so I'm going to start planning for that. I'm so bored of all of my winter clothes, it's going to be so nice to change it up a little.

My aunt used to hand baste seams before sewing them which always seemed like so much extra time to me. I, also, sometimes skip staystitching. With some fabrics, though, hand basting and stay stitching makes a lot more sense.
